Applied to AAG for reverse mortgage and were told by AAG rep that everything was accepted and was a positive, all depending on appraisal. Appraiser told my wife and I that we had alot of room, noting that we also had a rental. We have seperate entrances, within a vestibule. We also have several previous appraisals noting a 2 fam. dwelling, and several times (once in person) we've gotten notices from NYC Dept.of Buildings stating a class B3- 2 family dwelling. We have the original appraisal from 2003 (at closing for this house purchase) before signing contract. Appraiser completely changed the entire floor plan that was right in front of his eyes. He gave a class C4 (?) I don't know where he got this classification. He encouraged us to feel the home's true worth but was 100% opposite in his appraisal, not to mention the report is so contrary that it be seen by anyone looking at the house and the appraisal. We ended up not getting the reverse mortgage all based on the appraisal, according to AAG, and it cost us money we did not have.
