I have worked in the transmission repair business for over 20 years. 15 of those years in the DFW area. Sad to say it's a negative. I have always tried to the best job for my customers. Be honest and charge them a fair price. It used to be a fun business. It is not anymore especially what has happen to Eagle Transmission of Denton and probably most the DFW Eagle Transmission shops. There is not a doubt in my that there is more bad than good. The last 4 years the transmission business has declined for various reasons. 9-11, unemplyment, give away car sales. Consumers had no money so they would trade their vehicle for a new one instead repairing. Plus they are just making cars better today. About 30% of shops that were here 4 years ago are gone.

With less cars to work and some shops not having information to repair them have resulted in, once good honest dealers becoming dishonest. Such is the case with Eagle Transmission of Denton. When I first meet the husband,,wife team that were opening a new shop in great area. They were a much needed fresh air in this business. The husband's firat quote to me was. "I know that this businness has a bad rep and I am going to change that".

This was October 2002. For the last year not so. I really don't know what happen to him. He left his full time job started a few other businesses that weren't doing what he thought they should so he started to pressure all employees to start committing fraud. His favorite saying now is "paint in blue and call it new". Tell the customer they had bad transmission pull it out paint it.

Don't replace any trans parts. Fix the MINOR problem. Then charge a full retail price anywhere from $1500 to $4500. He even started doing these things to his neighbors. A personal friend who owns a landscaping business. We will call him David. UNT students where parents are supporting these kids. The list goes on and on. I have most of the names of people who came under his greed and deciept. Sad story for a good guy I once called a friend. What happen to me. When I found what was going on and told him no more, after almost 4 years of loyal service I was cut loose and he refused to pay my vacation pay.

Am I bitter? yeah wouldn't you. I just want to make it right with people he ripped off. The last straw a customer named Harry came in with a Mazda 626 with a destroyed transmission and all mounts were broken. It was quite expensive to repair $3000. Sold the job the customer was extremely happy. One thing, the customer had marginal engine that was not so good. The owner demanded not to tell the customer of this problem. His comment was not my problem. 1 day after customer picked up the car the engine blew up. Is that right? I have to sleep at night.

I know when or if he finds out about this report he will demand the other employees to lie. Sad he has some good people there that just can't find a job anywhere else and are stuck.

I hope I help some people by writing this truefull report. I hope I make difference to the few honest people in this business. Oh yeah, if even develoed software to make phoney tickets so he wouldn't have to pay the Eagle Home Office their franchise fee. Yeah, he even steals from people he does business with. I could write a book with facts about what he has done the last year to customers, venders and people he does business with

If you are the business and are fed up with owners that do this respond and let's make a difference.

Denton Shop who has used Eagle Transmission

AUTHOR: BigB - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, November 13, 2011

I am a local auto repair shop owner who has used Eagle Transmission in the past and intends to never use them again or recomend my customers to use them ever again.

I used to do business with a local tranmission guy, his shop was Trans Pro of Denton, Mr. Davis, the owner of Trans Pro always provided his customers the best rebuilds available anywhere. He used quality parts, provided quality service and was just the greatest transmission builder I have ever dealt with ever, he always went above and beyond what you would expect from someone in the transmission rebuild industry.

Unfortunately for us Mr. Davis decided it was time to retire, so he sold his buisness to Eagle Transmission. He stayed on with Eagle for a short time, getting his customers familuar with Eagle and introduced us to Eagles tranny builder, the owner and his team. I was impresssed with the size of the shop and the friendly staff. I was looking forward to a good future with them, but this never happened.

We had a one of our long term customers come in to us with transmision problems, so we spoke with Eagle and they arranged for us to pull the transmission to have them rebuild it. So, they rebuilt the transmission and returned it to us, we installed it and road tested it and returned it to our customer. The very next day our customer returned with the service engine soon lamp on, it had a code stored for a transmission control issue. So we contacted Eagle and were told that we would have to remove the transmission so that they could repair it. Just imagine how we felt, being told that we would have to remove the transmission AGAIN, tie up our work area AGAIN so that they can fix it AGAIN?? I thought that they were supposed to do that the first time, right?

So, days go by and we get the tranny back with just a sorry about that, a part failed so it's fixed now. We install the transmission again, return it to our customer only to have it come back again less then a week later with the EXACT same code! So again, we contact Eagle and AGAIN they tell us we need to pull it out so they can figure out what went wrong! Long story short this transmission was removed and installed a total of FIVE times before it was finally fixed good enought to keep the service engine soon lamp off. The fifth time it failed they were the ones who removed and installed it because I had had enough and told them how pissed off I was and that I will contact my lawyer if I have to remove it again, so they offered to do it. Well, I should have done the work myself because another week goes by and my customer is back to me complaining of a god awful rattle sound coming from under the vehicle, so I raised the truck up and found that Eagle had left all the transmission crossmember bolts loose, the transmission mount loose as well as the exhaust flange bolts loose. This was not much of a surprise to me considering how many times they failed to fix the transmission right the first, second, third or fourth times. Eagle also told us that for every customer we sent them for transmission repars that resulted in a full rebuild we would recieve a cash bonus for doing so. Well, that was also a line of BS delivered to us by Eagles owner. He never gave us any bonus, he called to tell us thank you and I owe you a bonus but not once did he ever pay us.

The worst part of this whole experience was trying to rebuild my relationship with my customer, rebuild the trust that he had in me and to convince him that I have never had anything like this happen to my business before and we both are victims of Eagle Transmission because not only did Eagle rebuild the transmission on his personal vehicle they also rebuilt the transmisison in his company work truck, and that too ended up being removed three times and to this day still exhibits shifting problems, so you can imagine how hard it was to regain his confidence in me, even if the only thing I did wrong was trust Eagle Transmission. I feel sorry for Mr. Davis, having Eagle treat his customers the way that they did or still do and to destroy the business reputation that he built. He didn't deserve to have that happen to him or his customers. We truely miss him.

Eagle Transmission will never recieve another customer recomendation from my business again, ever. When I have someone come to my shop with transmission problems and they ask where to take the vehicle I tell them the truth, there is not a single good transmission shop located in Denton Texas and that the best thing they can do is to go to the Dealership or allow me to install a NEW transmisson into their vehicle to prevent them from having to go through the troubles that could happend by getting a rebuild.

I will not identify myself or my business in fear that Eagle will retaliate against me, what I have said here is the truth and I don't trust Eagle one bit to put my name out there so that they can commit lible against me.

Buyer beware

Ripped off too by Eagle Transmission of Denton, Texas

AUTHOR: Bill - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, August 08, 2011

I too was ripped off by Eagle Transmission of Denton, Texas. All I can say is beware of doing business with this location. I took my wife's suburban in to have the transmission looked at and was charged $65 for a technician to drive it around to then be told that it would be another $150 to drop the pan on the transmission due to the diagnostics not showing anything other than what I already knew that I had a traction control (ABS) light that was continuously on. I feel that I did not need to pay $65 for what I already knew? I needed someone to tell me if I had a transmission problem which by the way, the bait and switch and (FUD) fear, uncertainty and doubt that I was being told was that once they get in to doing the repairs that it would cost anywhere from $1,700 to $2,200 dollars to rebuild my transmission. This is pretty much Eagle's canned response...needless to say, I ended up going to a reputible mechanic that discovered that it was not my transmission all along but a loose caliper that was rubbing on my left rear wheel that was making all of this so called "transmission" noise that the rip off artists at Eagle Transmission were telling my all along "oh yeah! you have got a transmission problem"???????? So, my response to all you consumers out there is BUYER BEWARE WITH DOING BUSINESS WITH EAGLE TRANSMISSION OF DENTON, TEXAS.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Kettle calling the pot black!

AUTHOR: Previous Employee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I have also worked at the Eagle Transmission shop in Denton, and I can say with authority that the main mistake the owners made was hiring "Rich" to start with. The most notable comment made to me by the owners when I was hired was "We want to be able to hold our heads high in this community." Without a doubt, the negative influence Rich had on them and their company may have jeopardized their ability to do so. I have a great deal of respect for the owners of Eagle, Denton inspite of the influence Rich had on them. I was fired due to lies that Rich told about me, simply because I wouldn't cave in and say that every car that came into Eagle Trans. needed to have the transmission rebuilt. I believed the owners, when they said that they wanted to be able to hold their heads high in the Denton community, so I called each transmission diagnosis as I saw it. I refused to be led around by the nose and be Rich's little puppet and say yes, rebuild, $2000.00 to every customer that happened onto the property @ 1600 Dallas Dr. Denton. It took me a couple of years to get over being fired the way that I was, and also to forgive the owners, you see I had intended to work there til I retired. I've been in the transmission business since 1972, and I've come across a mountain of crooks, Rich being one of the worst, and in all honesty I believe that the owners of Eagle Trans. in Denton have the heart and capability of being one of the best shops in the industry. In closing the only thing worse than Rich's ability to be honest with you out there, his customers, his fellow employees and his ex-employers is his spelling!!!!!!!!

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Disgruntled employee

AUTHOR: Tim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 19, 2007

Well Rich sounds like a disgruntled employee right? Well thats because he is!

I have been in the transmission repair buisness for more than 30 years and actually worked in shops (for a very short time) that sounds like what Rich described. However the Eagle transmission shop in Denton is not one of them. I left a shop that had a good buisness but the owner had gotten deep into a drug habit and left there to work in the Eagle Denton. Very fine and straight up owner and Rich continued to say that there will be no drama of any kind at this shop.

Well in fact Rich turned out to be the major source of the drama often referring to himself in the third person when things were not going his way. His treatment of the employees there, especially the ones of spanish decent was deplorable. I found myself acting as a buffer between him and others.

But that treatment didnt stop there either. If you were a customer and were a OTW (other than white) or were obviously of a sexual orentation other than hetrosexual, he or she had little to no customer service from Rich or were just flat out run off from that shop.

I was a witness to this several times. He also tried to sell any customer a repair job needed or not. He was ticked at me many times when I told him that a car needed to be at another repair shop because the problem with it was not the trans. In other words a replacement trans would not fix their problem.

But theres more, Rich ran a marshall arts center from the shop and when on the phone with his other buisness customers were ignored and the phones were not answered.

He pulled employees from customers jobs to work on his car or other friends vehicles for nothing, all of which is a big no-no.
He gets ticked and yells and kicks things and is way too rude to customers and the crew was ordered off of certian vehicles to work on something else while the customer stood there.

I could go on and on. Rich was terminated because of his practices, nothing more. Even now I cant belive that he would stoop so low as vengece with lies, I thought I knew him better than that despite his personality short comings.

Now there owner was an absentee owner and came in occasionally to check the shops progress and make deposits. He relied on Rich for a succsessful buisness, but things were starting to not look good. He finally did some research and detective work and found out where the problem was and Rich was fired. As soon as a new manager was found the buisness flourshed in just a few days from the new managers installment. And as soon a the new manager was there the "drama" disappeared.

At this point the owner does not know I am writing this response because I havent worked there in six months. Richs deplorable report that contains nothing but lies was brought to my attention by another source alltogether and I couldnt let this one go. I left Eagle transmission because of health problems and persued other employment. I did not leave on bad terms nor was I let go, in fact I can have that job again anytime I wish. If my health were to get better I would go back in a heartbeat!

Rich speaks of making a difference, well he is now. He works for 24 Hour auto. That shop is well known for exactly how Rich portrays Eagle, and worse. His employment is called an upsale agent. His sole pourpose is to collect more money from an allready quoted ticket for no other reason other than to make a larger profit. He pay is a percentage of that upsale. The higher the ticket the more money he makes.

Its funny when Rich worked at Eagle and we had 24 Hour customers in our shop that he seemed to be amazed at how that shop ripped their customers, and they did too. Now he works for them jacking up the repair tickets even higher.

As far as the Mazda the he talked about, well he was mostly correct about the condition of the car except none of us knew about the engine, it ran fine. But the lack of maintenence of the car wouldnt be surprising if the engine failed. The trans, mounts and axles told most of that story and if you dont change the engine oil, the engine will fail.

The car ran fine when I delivered it to the custome and the customer brought me back to the shop, it ran fine sometime afterward as well. When the engine failed we got the car back and had it checked by a reputable engine shop and confirmed that the lack of proper maintence caused the problem, the same that caused the rest of the problems, and the type of failure could not be forseen. Its not the first time I have seen such a problem and likely will not be the last. After all most shops couldnt exsist if everyone properly maintained their vehicles.

His accusations of not replacing any parts is laughable. If a vehicle was towed in because it wouldnt move, or came in not operating properly, parts have to be replaced. I dont have a magic wand to fix them when they are broken, broken parts have to be replaced. I wish I had a magic wand at times, but I have never been able to find one.

All repairs carried out by me were at that shop were proper and complete. Full warranties were issued and backed. The vehicles that had other problems were promptly sent to another repair facility that did the type of repairs needed if the trans was not the problem.

My credentials are ASE, ATRA, ATSG, and AAMCO certified. I am also a top shop tech recognized by Rostra Precision Controls, one of seven top shop members. 31 years in this field and I am relunctunt to leave it. I was not a "stuck" employee, far from it. Good people are in high demand in the trans repair field and owners have a hard time holding on to the good ones. Good ones are often hired away to another shop because that shop cant find good guys any other way at times.

During the years that I spent there I had offers to go to another shop all the time. But I prefered to work at Eagle Denton because of the owners ethical values.

The owner of Eagle trans is a engineer and a good one at that. Engineers dont like anything less than perfection and allways seem to carry that atitude in any aspect of their lives. He also has several other sucsessful buisness and is the reason for being an absentee owner and trusted employees to do the right thing.

Anyone that is looking for the best trans shop for repairs, Eagle Denton is one of the few shops that will treat you right and fair. The new manager and the owner will see to it.
