We purchased a 4 ton Trane A/C in April 2009, in April 2010 it quit, called EMC and was not repaired until 5 days later! but it was covered under warranty but 5 days????
April 2011, it quit again. Tech came out and said it was leaking freon. It was leaking at the evaporator coil so it would be covered under Trane warranty. However, just the parts are covered and the service and labor would be $800!!! They would not schedule an appointment to repair until the parts came in, they would not order the parts until we gave them our credit card info, another 24hrs w/o AC in 90 degrees and they would not return numerous phone calls. When I finally got through they said that they "would call us and the parts are not in yet."
Now they have billed my cc but can't tell us when they will be here to do the work. Again, this is a two year old $4,000 A/C. We have been w/o A/C for 4 days and it will at least be another day in 90 degree weather.
The "manana" attitude is so frustrating to deal with. They act like they are doing us a big favor.
We will never give these SOBs another penny.
this helps you to decide to stay away.

You paid $4,000 for a 4-ton A/C two years ago? Wow, either you got the deal of the century or they sold you a used unit that was no longer warranteed. That may be why you are having problems with getting it fixed. If they sold you a used unit that they pulled out of another home, then there most likely is no warranty on it. I purchased a 3-ton unit in 2007 and paid $8,000+ after rebates. A warranty claim will always cover both parts and labor.

Have you contacted Trane yourself? I would contact them and complain about their dealer. My husband is in an unrelated industry, but does warranty work. He doesn't perform work until the company authorizes it, and in no case asked for CC numbers to start work. Bottom line with himn is that if the customer wants warranty work, it has to be fully authorized before picking up a tool.
