ecoATM is a company that has kiosk all over USA where you can dump your old I Phone for cash.
On July 15th 2014 I received a phone call from ecoATM saying that they have found my cell phone that was stolen in Dallas (TX) few months before and that they wanted to return it to me. All I had to do was filing a report at the Police of the place where my phone was stolen asking also a written authorization from the police department stating ecoATM can return the device to me.
I was extremely happy but when I called the Police of Dallas they told me that they were not releasing such a statement because finding a stolen IPhone is not a criminal activity so they don't care if ecoATM was returning it to me or not.
I explained the situation to ecoATM but they are still refusing to return my IPhone.
So they found it, they know it belongs to me and they are using this excuse to avoid returning it to me.
Basically I think that this ecoATM is a prefect lead to all those criminals that steal IPhone because they can get easy cash and the legitimate owner can't have it back.

You are mistaken, the local police in Wa State do not want to deal with this company either! This company lies and will try and keep your phone! The local police here were of no help either! They just want you to buy your own phone back because they know that most police dept. will not do anything!! Awful company!

The fact that you are made that ecoATM wanted to send you your stolen phone but could'nt because your local police dept.(Dallas Police Departmen) wouldn't do their job and help you retrieve stolen property puzzles me.EcoATM has policies and are required to verify you are the owner through a police statement.That is the case here. The fact that you are not complaining about the lack of help from your local public servant office confuses me as well. The company has returned many stolen phones to owners with the help of those owners local police department's cooperation before. I am sorry your local police in Dallas don't do what they're payed to do,which is help the taxpayer in any even of loss of property. My condolences,to you,sincerely. But this is not ecoATM's fault.
