I attended ECPI at the Va.Beach campus in September 2002. Stuart Le, reassured me that my college payments and "loan" was in effect. I was paying $200/month, and the remainder of my loan would be paid off six months after I graduate with job placement. Total loan amount came to about $26K. I was enrolled in web development taking two classes, one was a career development course and the other was college math.

A little over a month, I was called into the Payroll office. The administrator basically told me that I had to come up with $10,000.00 or I would be dropped. I tried to argue my point that Mr.Le told me that the program I was enrolled in allowed me to make monthly payments then pay off the rest after I graduate. I then called my dad, Marion Donski, from the payroll office,(because he was there when I enrolled) so my dad was in conversation and I overheard payroll telling my dad that Stuart Le "MUST HAVE lied to us."How professional.

Needless to say, I dropped out that day. I was in dedication to the college, not only by driving an hour and a half from NC but also making my "arranged" payments.

One month later I recieved a bill totaling $1600 dollars and some cents for the one month I attended. My dad is the most honest person I know especially when paying bills on time and financial obligations, so when I heard him say to just "ignore" the ECPI bills because it was a "scam", I accepted his request.

It is now 2008 January, I am attending a community college closer to where I live, after regaining my faith in any type of education, I am enrolled in an assoc.of science degree program that allows me to transfer to a major university. I recieved a call from a collection agency about a month ago. ECPI strikes again. The agency rudely reported that I owed ECPI $3,800 for the one month I attended. They would only settle the account for $3,000 dollars. They keep claiming that this would tarnish my credit report for quite some time, but it has been over five years that they have been claiming this. I think if this bill were legitimate, it would be on my credit report.

Ok, bottom line, without paying this bill I don't recieve my "transcript" for the one month attended, my college requires that ALL trancripts be received so i can qualify for financial aid and scholarships. I have paid my first semester tuition/fees/books, but there is no way that I can pay for another. I am a 3.8 GPA student with a bright future but I have this ECPI bill, which is not right, stopping me from being a well educated, productive citizen. Thank You.

ECPI College of Technology, Virginia Beach

It is unfortunate you went through this alleged situation.  The first concern I have in reading this alleged report is: Why didn't you go talk to the financial aid department to check in on the status of your FAFSA application?  The second concern while reading this is: If you started classes at any institution, but hadn't completed every step in the financial aid process, every college/university would charge you for classes.  This is not something people deal with only in private institutions, it happens frequently in state institutions as well.  I have known several people who have attended, and graduated successfully through ECPI without a problem.  These people took responsibility for their own education, their own lives, and their own outcome.  This is how people looking into college should view the future.  Nothing is just handed to people in life.  My third concern would be: If any college calls you down while in the first term with money owed, you must have gone to that school previously, dropped out or was made to drop out due to poor academic performance, and owed money previously -- still unpaid and collecting interest.  Any money owed to any company, school, or bill that was borrowed from another would collect interest, and eventually would end up in collections if not properly taken care of.  If you hadn't known about owing such monies, you would not have "arranged" payments.  Likewise, if it was in error, ECPI would not have charged it to you.  ECPI College of Technology offers a full disclosure in regards to the tuition, which includes tuition, books, and fees.  They only charge for time completed, which does include dropping without a proper withdrawal--which is also explained in the documentation provided upon enrollment into ECPI.  This information is available, and a copy is provided to each person enrolling at ECPI.  If the individual chooses not to read the information, or ask questions, this will happen to this person anywhere they go.  My final thoughts: ECPI College of Technology is not a "rip-off" or "scam" and all too often on these types of sites, consumers are allowed to post any misinformation they want to without giving 100% of the details.  Especially when all of the complaints I've read tell me this:
"Each person should take responsibility for his/her own education, and by doing so will lead to a better future."  Many times, individuals spend too much time, and money (nickel and dime fees often NOT included in the "per credit hour tuition rate") in state colleges only to find themselves with no career afterward.  ECPI has higher than average retention, graduation, and employment rates than most colleges/universities.  Consider the entire picture, based off all knowledge before making a judgment so you, too, can have this wonderful opportunity of a lifetime.  Take responsibility.

ECPI and their collection agency practices

AUTHOR: Dd - (U.S.A.)

I was contacted today by a credit agency stating that I owed ECPI $10,000. I asked the credit agency what were the charges for and they said that they had no idea what the charges were for. I asked the lady would you pay somebody who called you on the phone $10,000 and didn't know what for. She stated that if I was unwilling to negotiate or settle that I would have to go to court. Again, I said what for? The woman then stated the she will have to contact ECPI and get a detailed list of charges for me. The woman also stated that a previous collection agency was hired by ECPI to collect on my so called debt. When asked why did I not find anything out until now, she replied, " I don't know".

I did attend ECPI and I did drop out after 8 months but I never had a tuition balance. Magically, six years later I owe ECPI $10,000...hmmm
What a joke ECPI is, I sat in a classroom one semester and wiped hard drives and load operating systems every class. I actually quit during the middle of a semester and received an "A" in the class that I never attended...hmmm

I just reviewed my credit report and guess what? Nothing from any collection agencies nor ECPI.

They will never see another dime from me!

I disagree. My stay at the Norfolk, Va campus started with the most basic courses. Math, English comp, psychology, web design, etc. I started with the most basic classes. As far as scheduling, my classes were never canceled, except on 9-11. and my schedule was very regular...the same every day. My teachers were outstanding. If I did not understand something, I could stay after class for one on one time with the instructor. They even pushed me into studying for my certifications to be a role model for other students.
