So I applied for a position in EFG marketing thinking... Well I just graduated college and during these hard times I'm having trouble finding a stable job. I do currently have a job but woek have been so slow that I'm put on part-time work. there will be some weeks where they won't need me in there to work, so which means no pay check to feed my family. At a last chance I tried applying to EFG thinking... a little hard work wouldn't hurt and all these people working there are pretty young. I feel that I can relate to them because heck I'm only 23. I can work hard and soon be where some of these people are. I have a great sense of humor, and I'm very energetic. Well I looked up the place on google map and wow! the place is located on City Ave. Right accross from a major news station, and the building was pretty nice, right next door to a elligant store saks on fifth.
The secretary told me to dress up in formal attire, and to bring a copy of my resume. my interview was at 2:45pm. I was there an hour early because I was afraid that I might not find the place. So I walked into the building to take a look at it. WOW! it's just amazing, there's lawyer's offices, doctor's offices, professional buisnesses there... and it's all connected to Saks and fifth store.
I was pretty excited about this. Then 15 mintues before my interview time, I went to look for the office. Is it the one with the glass front, nope Lawyer's office... how about the next one...nope Doctor's office... how about this one... nope financial consultant... I look at the direction the secretary told me... to the elavator to the right all the way in the back. So I went back there... it did not seem like an office at all but more so a closet where the janitor/maintence people where keeping their equipments and trash. So I went past that turn left then I saw a little room. Ok totally not what I was thinking, but maybe this is just a small branch or something. Mayme more desks and offices behind those closed doors... Nope they're just empty supply rooms and meeting rooms with no furniture. I got there at 2:30... had to fill out papers... and didn't have my interview until 3:30. No one there really knew who I was.
I was interviewed by George Papalexandratos, and how shall I say this... but what a jerk. he spoke really fast. And the interview lasted 10min. Before I was told that the interview was over I asked him questions...I had a friend who was told that she'll be doing marketing intern work and ended up walking around Jersey in high heels and formal atire going door to door. So I was just basically up front with George "is this a door to door job" he said that they have door to door positions but I applied for a marketing management position. So I'll be going and communicating with businesses. And then I asked him... what are we selling exactly he replied business technology and supplies to local and bigger companies like staples etc. And then said that if they want to bring me in for a 2nd interview they'll call me later. the 2nd interview would be a whole day long training.
So I basically left and said thanks but no thanks. I'm not interested in this. WHY??? I have my friends from college to thank because she went through the same thing. The guy that interviewed her said the same thing.
Oh did I mention that they only dressed up for the office, but once they're done with the office they're in sweats. And did I mention the pay sucks, and you have to work 6 days a week and oh you're working on commission too. Oh and shine, rain, sleet, snow, ice... whatever the weather is, you're still required to be outside going door to door... "managing people" trying to get them to buy whatever you're selling... most likely Verizon Vios... After this experience... I hate it sooooo much that I went home and had my husband cancelled out verizon subscription. If you want a job during the recession work at retail or your local businesses. But if you want to be engulfed into a silly scam for your hard work and have your dignity stump on the ground then go work for EFG Marketing. They claim to have a sense of humor... but no one is laughing.

Interesting that EFG Marketing would allow one of their own employees to go onto a message board and let them rip apart a former prospective employee - it speaks volumes about the company...
Also, it's interesting that EFG Marketing is now dba Distinctive Solutions. Caveat emptor...

First off, judging by your grammar and spelling, you probably wouldn't be a good fit here anyway. Secondly, in an economy like this you should only be asking yourself three questions? One, are the people who work there happy? Well you never stayed long enough to find out but as an employee here I can say yes I love coming to work, literally love it. Two, does the job offer decent, honest pay? I would think $35,000 yearly is pretty good in this economy and working with a Fortune 500 company like Verizon sounds pretty secure and honest to me. I doubt companies like Verizon would hire scams. And third, is there any room to grow beyond an Entry Level Sales role? Now the last question is only for the ambitious so you can ignore that one. But the answer is yes. As the website says each of the senior management staff was trained from the ground up and we don't hire anyone from the outside. Bottom line you're not an idiot because you declined to see for yourself why we have such premier office space. (by the way it's not a closet it's a corner office, the most expensive office space in ANY building) You're an idiot because you would get on here and write things about a company you know nothing about. But then again who am I, I'm only someone happy in their career path and makes great money at 23 and you're living paycheck to paycheck looking for a job. Maybe you know something I don't about career hunting.
