Hi there,

I have seen the complaints filed against eHarmony.com, the Internet dating service. I was one of the twenty percent that was rejected by them based on my personality profile.

Do you know of any TV or radio advertisement that indicates a 20% rejection rate?

Take a look at the Why eHarmony page:

eHarmony is the best way for you to build a lasting relationship. We combine precise matching technology with the guidance of a caring and expert hand. We will not only work to find someone who is truly compatible with you, we'll also make it easier to meet and get to know each other.

Scientifically proven compatibility matching.

Surprisingly, a good match is more science than art. But for most singles, finding the right partner is more luck than planning. Research done by Dr. Neil Clark Warren (founder of eHarmony) has shown that the compatibility of romantic partners can be measured. In fact, there are 29 dimensions that create compatibility and play a key role in the most successful relationships. eHarmony uses these dimensions to identify the right matches for you.

Expert guidance in getting to know each other.

The only thing harder than finding someone who interests you is breaking the ice. Getting to know someone deeply is tough, especially on your own. But what if you had some help, from an expert? Someone who helps you ask the right questions? That's exactly what we do. You'll get to know people faster, better, and more easily than ever before.

It will work for you.

Millions of people have tried eHarmony and many connected with someone who is truly right for them. We've helped create thousands of successful marriages so far, and are looking forward to thousands more. In fact, we create more marriages per match than any online service.

Why Not Start Now?

It's risk free, so there's nothing to lose.

Do you see anything that indicates a 20% rejection rate?

Look at this notice of rejection after completing the Personality Profile:

Unable To Match You At This Time
eHarmony is based upon a complex matching system developed through extensive testing of married individuals. One of the requirements for it to work
successfully is for participants to fall into our rigorously defined profiles. If we aren't able to match a user well using these profiles, the most considerate approach is to inform them early in the process.

We are so convinced of the importance of creating compatible matches to help people establish and enjoy happy, lasting relationships that we choose not to provide service rather than risk an uncertain match.

Unfortunately, we are not able to make our profiles work for you. Our matching system is not suitable for about 20% of potential users, so 1 in 5 people simply would not benefit from our service. We hope that you understand that we regret our inability to provide service for you at this time.

You can still receive your free personality profile by clicking here.

Do you see any reason why I would want to receive a personality profile from a company after being told by that company that I am a worthless human being? I don't want to sit back, I want to fight back. If this is a real MD that runs this site, he/she would lose their license in New York for a response such as the one above.

I also notified them about their advertising.

I received the following auto-response:

Thanks very much for your email.

Based on your answers to our Relationship Questionnaire we will not be able toprovide you with matching service.

The onsite message you received is used to notify people that they fall outside the range of those we can accurately match with the eHarmony matching service.
Please allow me to explain what that means. eHarmony matches people by analyzing their answers to the Relationship Questionnaire in order to accurately match
compatible types of people.

The difficulty with this technology is that about 20%, or roughly 1 in 5 people, do not fit neatly into any of these categories. When that happens we are faced
with a dilemma. We could either match them anyway and hope for the best, or not match them. We are so convinced of the importance of creating compatible matches
to help people establish and enjoy happy, lasting relationships that we have chosen to not provide service, instead of risking an uncertain match. We feel that incompatible matches could easily lead to bad marriages; the very thing eHarmony was created to prevent.

Please do not take our inability to match you as a reflection of your desirability. We want you to feel totally welcome to spend time with us on our
site. Take advantage of every other part of our service
Our Personality
Profile, Q&A with Dr. Neil Clark Warren, and Enlightenment, our monthly newsletter. One thing I can promise you is that all of us at eHarmony are deeply
committed to your welfare. We want you and everyone else involved with us to end up with the life he or she most dreams of having.

To access your free personality profile, please go to www.eHarmony.com. At the bottom of the screen you will see the text, "Login to complete your registration
or personality profile" next to form fields with the words "Username" and "Password" directly above them. Enter your user name and your password in the
corresponding spaces then click the Login button. At the bottom of the screen you will see the message referenced above ending with, "You can still receive your free personality profile by clicking here." Please click the 'here' link to access your profile.

This message is an auto-response to your inquiry. If your questions or concerns have not been addressed, please reply and a Customer Care representative will
get right back to you, or you can visit us on the web at:

Do you see anything that is even remotely related to their advertising?

eHarmony Refuse to Refund

AUTHOR: thetraveller09 - (Canada)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Here's my experience. My friend's account was, unknowingly, charged for a 6 month renewal. She called 2 days into the renewal and with all her effort dealing with Customer Service was lucky to get half her $161 back. My own paid eHarmany account has a month of membership left. Auto-renewal on my account indicates $29.99 per month will be charged. Currently there is a promo for $14.99 for a 3-month membership.
When I called and asked why my renewal wasn't 6 months like my friend I was given some song and dance about my membership is different from hers.

Dispite the $5 a month cost I have cancelled my membership and will never deal with such a dishonest business like eHarmony going forward.

Look on the bright side.

They didn't say that you were "undesirable", just that you didn't fit the classification system that they use to match people.

You're unique! Not easily classified! Enigmatic!

:)

Chin up, there's someone out there for you, just be patient. In the meantime, just concentrate on being happy with yourself in your own skin.

Lemme guess..

If you HAD paid, and after several months/years of NOT finding someone, lemme guess, you would STILL be posting here griping about how "they got my money and still no match! what a ripoff!" instead of what you are saying now.

My Husband and I Would Fall Outside Their Qualifications, Too

AUTHOR: Buddy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 29, 2006

Before my husband and I were married, we took an extensive personality test and found that we each were only compatable with 1% of the population. It's a good thing we found each other! I agree -- be glad that eHarmony told you up front. They didn't say you were bad, not desirable, ugly, undateable or anything else -- just that they would not be able to help you. I would take it to mean that you are unique and not bland, and need a different kind of woman than usually signs up with eHarmony. Keep looking -- it took awhile for my husband and I to find each other, but it's been worth every minute. I had to kiss a lot of frogs to find my prince.

They did tell you that you did not fit the criteria before you paid.
So you should not feel slighted.
I have had experience with the site.
And you pretty much have to answer the questions in a certain manner for them to match you.

Offline and online dating are both pretty good venues to meet people. You double your chances by doing both.
Good Luck.

Forget the dating service, you can do it on your own.

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 02, 2005

Few weeks back, there was a post by an individual who was upset that the dating service had not called him back after he had left a half a dozen or more messages. At least the sent you a reply. In my experience, dating should be like a trout line, if you throw out 100 hooks you're bound to catch something. Keep at it big guy. Forget the dating service, you can do it on your own.

Bob is Right I'm sorry you'd taken the news so badly when denied their services

AUTHOR: Catherine - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 02, 2005

Hi,

I'm sorry you'd taken the news so badly when denied their services. But I agree with Bob that it is refreshing in a business where scams abound & paying folks end up dateless, that they actually have a system in place to help alleviate this problem.

I would also venture to say that the 20% rejection rate is not such a bad mark that they are hiding; in all actuality I would be MORE likely use a company's services if I knew they were so diligent in their screening process. I say they should put it prominently on their website *just* as a matter of promotion.

Anyway, I hope things went better for you in the months since then. But I also wanted to say that the letter they sent to you in no way even alluded to you being an undesirable person. I think that was just an unfortunate side effect of *human perception* that we're all so prone to have.

Take care.

I'd Be Happy They Were Honest With You

AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 29, 2005

With all due respect, William, this firm has displayed honesty by not promising you something they feel they can't deliver.

Numerous online and in-person services have taken members' money while not feeling confident they have other members for a satisfactory match.

Since these folks didn't ask you for any money, they were being fair to you. Perhaps they didn't find a number of compatible matches for you in their profiles.

You will surely find your match somewhere, and please beware of services that ask you for a lot of money up front, There have been reports of folks ripped off for over $5,000.

Good luck.
