My wife and I attended a timeshare sales presentation at the El Cid Resort in Mazatlan, Mexico while on vacation in October, 2005. We were told that they wanted to purchase our timeshare at another resort for the equivalent points it represented. We were also offered to purchase a timeshare at their resort from some of the net proceeds of the sale of our resort. In addition, we were told that the El Cid Resort could rent weeks of the timeshare we would purchase at their resort on our behalf for as much as $3,000 per week. This sounded like a good deal so we signed a contract to purchase the El Cid timeshare. We provided them a deposit of $9,000 by credit card charge. They used their billing compay, Rsort Com International to make the charge. We were told to forward copies of our time share documents when we retured home so they could perform a title search and the closing would be performed by a company called Resort Solutions, Inc. in Williamsburg, Virginia. When we returned home from our vacation, we forwarded our documentation and waited for the closing. However, our attempts failed to contact the El Cid Resort by telephone and email. We decided to contact the closing company, Resort Solutions, Inc. who told us that the El Cid is prohibited to purchase or rent timeshares, and our timesare was worth significantly less then what was indicated by El Cid. Also, Resort Solutions could sell our timeshare but for an additional $199 and it could take up to six months. We were shocked. Everything we were told by El Cid were bold lies and misrepresetatios. We contacted El Cid and indicated that we wanted to cancel the contract. They indicated that they wanted a total of $2,116.80 as reimbursement for the gift they provided us of lodging and all inclusive meals and drinks. The lodging was because they insisted we transfer to their resort for their convenience to sign documentation and the all inclusive was a bonus gift for completing the sale. We disputed the $9,000 amount to the credit card but they made a decision to allow El Cid the $2,116.80 to resolve the dispute. The credit card company advise us of another party that lost over $14,000 in a similar dispute with the El Cid Resort. We would like to know of other people that were ripped off in the same manner as we were to possibly initiate a class action against the El Cid Resort. Thank you for any assistance.

MRI Fraud

AUTHOR: simo68 - (United Kingdom)

POSTED: Thursday, January 24, 2013

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Liz, and our Company based in UK, CPC Worldwide, is specialized in helping people that have been a victim of fraud.

It's our job to solve problems abroad and I think that there's a lot of people on here that we can help. Our company was formed out of being disgusted at the way some people have been treated in the past and how so many people feel lost in a minefield.

We have other clients that have been defrauded by MRI. If you want to get your money back, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I have realised I am not allowed to leave any email addresses or phone numbers, but you can easily find our UK company website.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Liz

Resolved my issue with El Cid

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Just wanted to let people know that I had a similar problem with El Cid and they canceled my contract and gave me a full refund. I complained about my experience on every travel and complaint website that I could find and e-mailed links to the complaints to every e-mail address that I could find for the company. They are especially sensitive to reviews on Trip Advisor. Good luck, and keep on them until they give you your money back.

Never give them your credit card!

AUTHOR: Hound from CA - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 27, 2011

From another scam victim:

It looks like there is no escape from El Cid once they have your credit card. We tried to cancel within 5 days, even with Profeco's (Mexican government's Better Business Bureau) assistance. Even though Mexican law allows for contract cancellation within 5 days at no financial obligation (Federal Law of Consumer Protection, Article 56), they insist that it does not apply to them.

Their latest demand stated the following: "I am processing your cancellation request, there is only the matter of our sales kit ( kit, bag, books, cd, etc.) which has a cost of $100.00 usd. Your chose is to keep it & we will deduct $100 usd from your down payment refund or return it to us via mail and have no deductions."

Most local Profeco offices do not have English speaking staff, bring your own translator if you need to file a complaint or email their central office foreign residents direction.

More importantly, Never give them (El Cid) your credit card!
