Nonetheless, if all of the other application details were verifiable, Elan still agreed to rent to the couple with a higher deposit. At the time, the couple decided not to accept this offer, provide income verification, pay the $25 application fee, pay the $500 hold deposit, or sign any of the required documents in order to place the apartment on hold.

After a few weeks, the man stated that his wife was no longer going to live with him. He decided to pre-qualify again using the Vaultware automated online system; therefore, he was charged another $9.95 online convenience fee. The applicant signed all of the required paperwork to place the apartment on hold while his application was being processed.

In the end, unfortunately, this applicant's income could not be verified. The $250,000 in which he discusses in his blog was actually an equity line of credit on a home in Nevada deposited just weeks before applying for the apartment. This applicant could not provide a seasoned accounting of his income, so he could not qualify based upon the criteria every lan resident is held to.
