I took my vehicle with a rear end noise into Elk Grove Toyota January 20, 2015 and sat down with Fred Daniels, service advisor.  We agreed to rebuild the differential at more than the value of the vehicle as I am not in a position to buy a new vehicle.  I stated to him $2,500 is all I can afford as it will exhaust my savings. Upon receiving the vehicle I paid $2,652 and I had to borrow $200 to make the difference. I was told the transmission was making a noise.

The noise is the exact same noise as when I droped the vehicle off.  I have a second opinion at a cost of $127 to verify that the problem is still the differential.  I called Mr Brian Chase service manager and explained the situation.  He told me to bring the vehicle back to the shop and talk to Fred Daniels which I did at 7am the next day.  Mr Daniels was not there so Victor Reynoso service advisor helped me.  I explained the problem and he stated he would have the shop foreman look at the vehicle.

I waited the entire day and returned on my own at 3pm near the end of their shift and contacted Mr Reynoso.  Mr Reynoso then went back to talk with the shop forman and he told me it was the differential that was the problem but they said that I was responible for additional repairs.  I asked to talk to Mr Chase, service manager and he told me I was offered two choices to fix the differential so they are not responsible.  I explained that Mr. Daniels told me the noise was the transmission which I have in writing on the Elk Grove Toyota paperwork  and I have a second opinon to verify that.  I called Mr. Chase twice to get an estimate on the additional cost of the repair and he never returned my calls.

I have no doubt that if I had had the $3,500 to repair the transmission this shop would have repaired the transmission knowing it did not need a repair.  A factory trained Toyota Mechanic would also know if the differential had an additional problem and should have notified me before putting the unit back together.  Rather they stated the noise was from the transmission and tried to get me to spend more money.

This is the second bad experience I have had with Mr. Daniels who was also a mechanic for 13 years.  The first time he told me I needed new brakes just like the first consumer but the problem was really the speedometer cable. I spent $500 I didnt need to.  My advice to consumers is to avoid this service advisor as he is not truthful. I will no longer be doing business including purchasing vehicles from Elk Grove Toyota.
