My wife and I submitted all our furniture and accessories for bid to this firm. We were told that the average return was 20 to 25 % of original retail. We were told that if all was not sold at first auction, they would trey again the following week.
We received a check about 10 days after the initial auction and "BRIEF" itemized list of what was sold and for how much. The average was much lower than 20 to 25 % AND we were never contacted again as to what was sold the following week.
When I called to complain I was told that I should have attended the auctions so I could see what went on, DESPITE being told when we signed the agreement that there was no need to attend and EVERYTHING WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF.
We STILL do not know what or if anything was sold at second auction. Please keep in mind that the items that were picked up by this RIPOFF firm FILLed a two story home with a full basement AND attached garage.
We ended up netting about $1,800.00 after they took there commision. All the items that were auctioned were in GOOD to Excellence condition when they were picked up. ANYONE in the SOUTH JERSEY area had better be advised that the same thing WILL happen to them if they deal with The Elmer Auction Company of Elmer,New Jersey.

I read the report on Elmer's Auction. I lived in Southern New Jersey, frequently attended the Friday night auction, and so miss the place. I used the service described by the writer of the complaint and found the firm to be honest and reputable. My articles and furniture sold for about what they were worth. I did attend the auction when my articles were up for bids. I believe that many people think their things are worth far more than they actually are.
People go to auctions such as this one to buy stuff inexpensively. Occaisionally there is a piece that is a "real buy" and the bidder gets a great deal. Other times, bidders run the price up. Good for the seller. There are many variables.
I do not feel the criticism was warranted nor are these people rip-offs. The writer of the complaint had very unrealistic expectations. They could have handled the sale of their furniture personally via newspaper ads, craigslist, or consignment and made more money. You have to pay for the convenience of having it handled for you!

our agreement, which was read and signed by these people, states that we can not control prices. these folks were in a huge hurry to have their items removed, and we dedicated 2 days work with our crews to help them.it is a shame that some people do not understand that used furniture and exercise equipment is not a rare commodity.we do encourage our consignors to attend an auction that contains their items. it just makes good sense.i suppose that after all the years the elmer auction has existed, it's to be expected that one complaint couldn't be resolved.does that make us "con artists"? we've served tens of thousands of customers.most, we hope, are happy!
