This an update to my former report on EM Watch Repair.  After taking the Rolex Datejust to a Rolex authorized watch repair facility in Sacramento, Ca.  I found the following:

• Saturated in oil
• Bad set lever
• Gaskets were not replaced
• Lint in the mechanism
• 1 screw in the mechanism was missing

The above items are the basics of a $645 watch overhaul, along with the cosmetic refinish on the watch and band, which I paid to Eric Martin at EM Watch Repair.  The estimated cost to repair the watch properly is $745 which includes an above normal cleaning due to the over oiling by Mr. Martin.  The watch was so saturated with oil it could not move freely internally so as to operate.

I emailed Mr. Martin and his response is as follows:

I hope the watch runs well after your decision, I mean well, you have guarantee with my work, you could have send it back to me, I could have taken care of the problem.  

Now, I hope you can understand this, every single competitor always does the same thing, discredit the work of anybody else, with all kind of criticism that I can imagine.  I have been in this work for 35 years and I used to work for Rolex when I was a kid when I was 18 years of age.  I don't want to argue with you, you could have saved the extra expense because it is not true what they say, but I am sure they charged you.

I refuse to believe Mr. Martin and his characterization of other watchmakers.  I believe he just doesn't do the work and yet charges top dollar.  Why would any sane person return the watch to the same person who destroyed it in the first place?

Why would a self proclaimed expert keep changing his address and the name of his company??

Again, I suggest you thoroughly check out the many RIPOFF reports for this busines and this person.  That many consistent complaints of shoddy workmanship and deceipt merits review.

We can only hope the District Attorney in Sedona has the time and staff to chase this down.
