I recently went to Embassy Dental. I hadn't been to a dentist in years, so I anticipated needing a lot of work done. I went ahead and bought the "Embassy Smiles" discount dental plan to cover some of the cost.

When I got to the office, the diagnosis what I expected- periodontal disease that needed to be treated. The gave me an estimate of the total cost to me after the discount- $1800! The majority of this cost was for the use of Arrestin, an antibiotic placed below the gums. I asked if there was any way this could be treated without Arrestin and I was told that it absolutely could not. As the office manager Leslie (who seems to be the most uneducated of them all) said "It scares me that any dentist would treat someone without Arrestin."

I consulted with a family friend who is a retired dentist. I explained the diagnosis to him. He told me that the very first thing they should have done was clean my teeth as that could correct what appears to be periodontal disease when it actually isn't. He also said that using Arrestin as a first line of treatment is extremely aggressive and he would never have done that in his practice unless the disease was very severe (mine was borderline and not severe).

I went and got a second opinion 2 months later at another office in town. Before the examination, they agreed with what my family friend had said. The course of treatment is to clean my teeth first and then see if it corrects itself. After the examination they found that I didn't have periodontal disease at all! The whole diagnosis was wrong. I merely needed a "deep clean" as I haven't been to a dentist in many years. The total charge for my dentist visit was $161 (which was covered by insurance so I paid nothing) as compared to the $1800 that Embassy Dental wanted to charge. In fact, the new office suggested that I drop dental coverage all together as given the condition of my teeth and gums, insurance is more costly than paying out of pocket.

For your own sake, do not go to Embassy dental. They are merely salesmen try to making as much money off people as they can. Thankfully, I had someone to contact to tell me not to trust them in the first place.
