It's a scam. If you get it they will bill you $29.99 every 6 months. You may not be able to stop them. Also your credit card company may not be any help.
They billed me through Reg.Net. They are in on it too. Reg.Net would not refund me. The person I talked to at Reg.Net said that she had cancelled the automatic renewal. Then 6 months later they burned me again. I talked to a fraud investigator at Capital One. She had a tuff luck attitude. I told her I didnt know there would be an automatic renewal she told me yes I did know there would be an automatic renewal. When I told her not to tell me what I knew she hung up. After they got me for a second renewal charge the fraud investigator I talked to was fine and he credited me. However he did read me a disclaimer saying there is a chance they may undo that. I just checked my statement online and the relevant part looks like this.
Payments, Credits, and Adjustments
6/22/2007 PURCHASE ADJUSTMENT ($29.99)
Transactions
6/22/2007 DR *SpyHunter , 952-908-4112 , CO $29.99
The first automatic renewal said something like:
12/22/2006 REG.NET*SPYHUNTER 800-999-2734 $29.99
That phone number, 952-908-4112 connects you to Reg.Net. If you need to call Reg.Net use 800-999-2734
In summary I believe Enigma Software Group Inc. and Reg.Net are running a scam.
Here is a copy of the email you will get every 6 months if you buy SpyHunter (Spy Hunter).
I have neutralized it by putting xxxxxxxxx over some of it.

SpyHunter Purchaser

I DID just purchase SpyHunter, on June 3, 2014. It found malware, a lot of it, and DID find some I was well aware of, which was the reason for my purchase, to remove the superfish window shopper virus and other spyware. So far I've been pleased.
However, I did NOT realize it was ONLY a 6 month subscription ($39.99). That is MY fault, however, for not reading the details PRIOR to purchase. But, thanks to the Rip-Off report placed in 2007 by another consumer, I did go in to manage my subscription.
I clicked to cancel it and have saved PDF copies of my account info, subscription info (now showing cancelled), and will now add a reminder to my calendar to remind me to check my credit card account in six months. It stated I would receive a confirmation of my cancellation of my subscription and that I would have full access to my current subscription for the remaining time of my subscription which is 6 months. I have NOT yet received that confirmation, but will be watching for it and will contact the company if it does not come through today.
What complaint I do have is that the free trial version of RegHunter was included with SpyHunter, even though I did NOT check the option to purchase RegHunter. When I started my computer this morning, RegHunter started up right away. I have disabled its "start up when Windows starts" option. I did run it and it showed that I have over 1900 problems. I checked and some of those "problems" are legitimate programs which I installed. The purchase price to register RegHunter is $29.99.and it requires a separate purchase or registration to clean the registry after finding all of the problems.
I did look this time and it's clearly stated below the area where you put in your credit card info that it is a 6-month subscription. I did NOT register or purchase it. Now time will tell if the Enigma Software Group (or Reg.Net) attempts to charge me a renewal fee in December for SpyHunter. I have pdf copies of everything, so I'm armed if needed.

I did not click on the link to download "Spyhunter" fortunately. However, when it did its free scan, it came up with some impressive sounding malware which super antispyware, malwarebytes, and my anti-virus did not. Strangely, I do not have the "alleged" malware on my system.
