We reserved a luxury car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car for $826.93 that included`base rate, taxes and fees. At Miami International Airport (MIA) on Dec. 11, 2014, we picked up the car with a return date of Jan. 7, 2015. The lady who brought the car to us asked if we wanted to have car insurance. After she told us it would cost more than $800, we declined the insurance as we had our own auto insurance and the total cost would double. We checked to make sure there was no existing damage to the car body, and the Enterprise employee said the small ding we found on the car wouldn't matter for insurance purposes.

So imagine our shock when we were presented a bill of $1,722.34 when we returned the car on Jan. 7 at MIA. We disputed the amount, and the Enterprise employee who received the car said he would take care of the extra charges, which were for insurance that we neither wanted nor authrozed. We left the car with him and hurried to catch the Skytrain shuttle for our flight home. And yet when we got our credit card statement in late January, we were billed the higher amount.

We immediately contacted Citi bank credit card, and sent in our price quote as the bank wanted document support. Now the bank wants proof that Enterprise had agreed to reduce the charges. So I called Enterprise at MIA yesterday (Feb. 25), and was told a manager would return my call. A few hours later someone identified herself as Monique Richardson called back, and said Enterprise couldn't do anything because it happened too long ago. Less than 2 months is too long ago for payment dispute??? I bet Enterprise will keep hounding renters for months if they owe the company money.

Needless to say we will never rent from Enterprise Rent-A-Car again.

3/13/2015 update:

To Enterprise's credit,  I was contacted right after I filed the report. A few days and several emails later, we spoke with a manager at Enterprise Miami Airport. He was apoligetic, and said the extra insurance charge would be refunded. Today when I checked my credit card account, there was a message saying that the conditional credit of the dispute is now permanent.

It's a relief that Enterprise came through. I just wish that the company wouldn't push too hard for additional products that many of their customers don't want. Next time when we rent from Enterprise, I hope we don't have to go through the same ordeal again.
