I am having a really hard time with Credit Reporting Agencies (Experian, Equifax & TransUnion) I have been paying a monitoring company for 5 years to notify me when something in my credit changes because I am constantly finding creditors reporting inaccurate or false information on what seems to be a monthly basis!  I dispute the information or charge, follow up with the credit agency only to be told there is NOTHING they can do to stop inaccurate information!  How is it that a company that hold so much of our life in thier hands can not verify information before adding it to our credit reports?!  On my last 2 hour conversation with Experian I am again advised that there is nothing they can do about a company reporting on my credit report with out a SS# and with a bad address (I never lived in the state they are claiming) and a last name that was changed 7 years ago...  Thank goodness the collection agency agreed with my claims and state they will remove the item but it can take 30 days to come off..  Experians answer was "ok, we will dispute this charge and see if they (the collection agency) agree to remove the item"!!!!!!!!!!!!  How is it that we are relying on this agency to report our financial stability when they do not verify information being submitted!  The final straw that broke this camels back is the person I spoke with at Experian told me to sign up for a credit monitoring subscription!  WHO RUNS THESE MONITORING SUBSCRIPTIONS?  They are owned by EXPERIAN, EQUIFAX AND TRANSUNION!  So they are making money off of good people who are fighting erroneous information being placed on thier credit!!!  There needs to be more accounability to the agencies who have our financial lives in thier hands to report verified and ACCURATE information ONLY!  Stop ripping us off.....

Consumer response is INACCURATE!

I am not sure what world you live in but more than 90% of what you have said is incorrect.  The credit bureau's do not verify information AT ALL, if a collection agency sends them info they post it UNVERIFIED.   This has been confirmed by all agency's I have spoken with.  I have a daughter who lived with me and sad to say she is also a deadbeat, but I have had collection agencies call me and post against me just because she used my address and listed me as a c/o in her mailing.

There is no mistake that the name and SS# were not mine only my address, I co-signed years ago for a utility account for her and was never advised the bill was unpaid until it went to collection, I ended up paying this bill but it didn't stop the credit bureau from posting it to my account as if I was the original debtor (2 years later, I final was able to get them to list the debt as a co-signer)

The only thing you are correct about is that you can sue the collection agency but that is really hard to do and costly...  The collection agencies count on the fact that it is cheaper to pay a debt that is not yours than it is to fight it.

I agree that the Credit Bureau's have a responsibility to verify information before it is added to your credit report.  As it stands, if you dispute something with the credit bureau's they send a dispute to the collection agency or creditor for confirmation, which still requires no proof of debt just a "yes or No" the debt is accurate.....   The Bureau's advise you to sign up for a monitoring service to watch your report!

WHO OWNS OR PROFITS FROM THESE SERVICES???  THE CREDIT BUREAU'S!!!  They are either owned or paid by these companies!!!  If you do not sign up for the services then you must pay for pulling your report or wait the year for your free report, but by that time your credit can be in shambles....  I say, write to your attorney general, congress man/woman, as well as anyone else you can think of who will listen, maybe if enough consumers complain there will be a change in the standard practices used by credit bureau's.
