I saw an ad on Craigslist posting about an easy way to make a one-time payout of $450. Sounded pretty reasonable to me so I decided to contact the lister. The lister gets back to me within one day replying to me via e-mail. They tell me that I have to have a Google or Instagram account. I have both.

I'm then told to add him on Instagram (aggregation_program) and to read through all his posts. All the posts are in a majority of CAPS and he social proofs each post by having someone comment on them. The end goal here is to get you to talk with him on Kik.

Once I message him on Kik (workandgetpaid), he tells me I need about an hour to listen to him explain and then another hour later on in the day to do some tasks. I said sure, $450 sounds good enough. He goes on to tell me how he's found a loophole in FISERV with vacation packages and credits. He's found a loophole where he can cash in vacation vouchers for $800, but needs other people's help to cash them out because his family and friends had already done it. In exchange he would give $450 to me and a cut of $350 to him. He sends over "documentation" to prove that he works at FISERV and then goes on to send dozens of videos of people giving him a testimonial of how it worked for them. The only thing is that he would need for me to put money into an escrow account because he'd been burned before by people who just kept the $800.

The strange part about each video was that they said something very similar every single time. I got suspicious and actually found the EXACT actor for one of the testimonials on a site called Fiverr where you spend $5 to get an actor to speak on your business. I said go ahead. He then tells me that I must go to a Walmart/7-11/CVS to purchase an American Express Card and a Green Dot card. I had to do some things so I wait a couple hours and then go buy them. He tells me to buy them separately and with cash.

Once I get the cards, he tells me to take pictures of one of the cards and send it to him. I check before I send it to him and I have $130 credit. I send it to him so he can set-up an Escrow account...I check back five minutes later and the funds are all gone. He then goes to tell me I have to do some "math" now.

What I have to do is an inane task where he says I have to create my own encryption...he said to create 64 sets of 8 combinations. Each combination has to be a number in the format of XX-XXX and all numbers have to be unique. After all numbers are unique, you have to convert them to letters (with the exception of 0). A = 1, B = 2, C = 3...I = 9. I felt like I was already scammed so I thought might as well carry it through since I already lost the money. I write a program in about an hour to do this inane task that would typically take someone I'd guess several days. Remember...most people would do this on the Kik app on their phone...what I did was download an emulator, write up the program, then copy and paste the sets into the emulator.

After that, he goes on to tell me that I'm the "fastest he's ever worked with". He says that there are some delays so he'd have to push things back, but says he'd be setting things up "so that was the last step". The next day, he tells me I have to do something else...for sets 32-64, the odd sets I just have to completely redo as a unique pattern. And the even sets, I have to modify them individually by +1 the first two digits and last digit of the XX-XXX format. If the number = 9, it would roll over to become 0. He tells me most people take maybe a couple of days. Me, being a smartass who knows how to code, writes a program in 30 minutes and it's done.

At this point, I'm actually still chatting with the guy and he's telling me to give him my receipt date and time. So far, the information I've given to him includes my zip code, phone number, date of birth, city and state, full name, e-mail, and information for gift card. Makes me kind of nervous because with all that data, you could potentially steal someone's identity or escalate priviledges on their accounts. I was blinded by a short gain (not even that much) that I made a stupid mistake and lost $130. However, the loss of my personal data to someone who is unscrupulous, is the bigger loss.
