Europcar Group UK and agent Kishen Charged me for Roadside Assistance Express, insisted this daily charge which totalled GBP 118.00 was mandatory when it was optional. ALSO overcharged me by a day. Hounslow, Middlesex London Heathrow Airport

My husband and I rented a compact car from the Europcar London Heathrow Airport Office on September 8th 2016 for 16 days.  Upon arriving at the rental office we were very tired (having just flown in 5,500 miles from Oregon, USA) and my husband was feeling ill.  The Counter  Agent Kishen took advantage of this and ripped us off.  He charged us far too much for the car rental insurance and also insisted that we needed to purchase the their Roadside Assistance Express at £5.23 per day - which totalled £118.00 for the 16 days.  He kept saying this charge was mandatory and that we wouldn’t be able to hire the vehicle without this service being purchased.  I was therefore left with no other choice but to sign the rental agreement, produce my credit card and pay up if we were to leave that office with a vehicle that morning.  He absolutely took advantage of very tired travellers, and the fact that we were tourists in England and not locals!  I ended up signing the rental agreement "under duress" as I had no other choice.  We had been at his counter for quite a while and we were anxious to get on our way and leave Heathrow that morning.  I did ask to speak with his supervisor or managere but he said they would just tell me the same thing.  I told him that I would be in touch with the management to follow up on this once we got back home to Oregon on September 24th.  

Once home I looked at our paperwork again and noticed two anomalies – one was that my copy of the yellow sheet showed that the services I was “forced to purchase” was definitely an Additional Optional Service, AND that I was charged for a total of 17 days instead of 16 !!  Within a few days I had emailed my letter of complaint to Euopcar - to the Heathrow office and to their Customer Services office in Leicestershire.  I explained in detail what had happened and requested a refunded of £118.00 for the Roadside Assistance charge that we didn't want, and a separate refund for the additional day that we were charged for.  At first they ignored my correspondence until I started calling them about it.  They finally acknowledged that they had received it and gave me a file number.  They then took another 3 weeks to "investigate" my complaint and finally got back to me by email saying they were not prepared to correct what had happened at their Heathrow office, they denied any wrongdoing on their part, and refused the reimbursement requested.  The case was closed and they weren't going to discuss it any further!!!  The customer service supervisor at Heathrow is Debbie Cairns - who absolutely refused to believe or acknowledge that her staff member Kishen had done anything wrong!  Her email address is  debbie.cairns@europcar.com  This was very disappointing and frustrating for me.  I had spent so much time calling and emailing them from the USA, giving them additional information, and trying to get the issue resolved, but all to no avail.  They obviously didn't believe me, or they are all in the scam together, not just Kishen but  all of the staff there.  There wasn't even an apology for the terrible customer service I had received from them.  They absolutely will not budge.
