I hope to prevent others from frustrations involving Evans Cycles' "Free Shipping To USA & Canada" claim. My experience with Evans Cycles resulted in wasted time and money. I find Evan Cycles' internet advertising misleading, deceptive and unethical.
They list their prices in Pounds, which makes their prices seem lower than actuality. Why else use a localized currency to solicit internationally? The symbol for the Pound looks similar to the Euro to the unwary on a small computer screen, while the Euro represents a more commonly recognized international currency .
On each page of Evans Cycles website they prominently display "FREE SHIPPING TO USA & CANADA." The right side of this header reads "No hidden charges." Clicking on this header leads to a page where the fourth paragraph relates "FREE (conditions apply) International delivery."
Clicking on "conditions apply" leads one to a page with the header "FREE DELIVERY AROUND THE WORLD - FREE DELIVERY." One must scroll down four pages of text to the tenth paragraph to read "Some countries may charge you import tax for certain items."
In my mind, shipping costs include import taxes. In my case I believed to be ordering $260 of goods with free shipping. After being charged I realized the amount was closer to $380 as I had misinterpreted the symbol of the British Pound to be the Euro. When my order arrived in the US, I received a call from the shipping company DHL asking for $83 for import taxes and duties.
I contacted Evans Cycles twice about the $83, and they have taken no responsibility for the situation. On their web page Evans Cycles lists three Core Values. The third value states "Doing What's Right - We only sell products and services we believe in and act with honesty and integrity at all times. We'll do everything possible to help our customers with a problem and will treat others as we expect to be treated ourselves."
I guess the people at Evans Cycles don't expect to be treated well.
