Be aware of false charges from this scam company - Eventbrite.com!
A local vendor for a Tiny House Show in Ohio has linked to them to handle ticket sales in advance for a $5 discount. Fair enough. They say that there will be a $1.82 charge for "convenience". Also, fair enough they are doing some work.
To use their site, you MUST creat an account even if you never plan to use them again for any event. So after you enter all your financial information (16 digit CC info, Exp Date, 3 number code, name, address, etc). They send a a text and the fee is actually MORE than what you were led to expect. In my case the charge was an extra dollar. Not much maybe, but this is the most incidious of all rip-offs. Small amounts that may slip through or be ignored. And, who cares about a buck?
The fact is the charge was almost 30% higher than promised ($2.82). This would be unacceptable at a grocery, or gas station, or any retail operation. No one would stand for such a deceitful tactic. If this applies to all those at an event, it means extra thousands, many thousands of dollars right into their bank account with no protections on your bank account. EZ Xtra money for them!
Worse, it's impossible to deal with Eventbrite directly. They refer all problems to the event sponsor. This creats a number of problems as the sponsor has no knowledge that this is happening. Nor can the sponsor refund any money as they have nothing to do with collection. You are stuck with a company that does not care nor will they respond and why should they? Thay already have all your info to use as they seem fit.
So, you end up overchargd and out of luck. Too bad, so sad.
Protect yourselves. First, DO NOT use any venue that links to Eventbrite! Secondly, I suggest always using a pre-paid Mastercard or Visa (keep a very small balance). That way they donot have access to your real money and if they later try and hit your card, there will be insufficient funds and you are protected in that way.
I was told there would be a discount for pre-buying the tickets. After all this, the discount was not worth the hassle. Just pay the full gate price, avoid Eventbrite'd dishonest practices, and enjoy whatever show you are attending. As always: Buyer BEWARE!
