I joined Events & Adventures in Dallas Texas after living in Fort Worth for about a year. I moved to FTW for my job and decided it was time to meet new people outside of the office. I scheduled an interview and really liked the club's agent. She was very polite event though I felt some of her questions were a little too personal. I had already decided I was not going to join that day in the office but I was told the membership would cost me $2400 instead of $1900 if I signed up that day.
On April 17, 2010 I agreed to make a $100 payment a month with $30 of that earmarked for dues. I made an initial payment of $100 and agreed that upon renewal, the entire balance would be due. I expressed my concern about my companies tendency to transfer its employees and that I could not guarantee I would be in the DFW area for the term of the full contract. My concerns were abided when I was told that if I got married or was transferred to an area that did not have E&A, I would be able to terminate my membership and would only owe for the time I was able to be an active member.
At the beginning of May 2010 I found out that I was being transferred to Corpus Christy, Texas. I was horrified that I was going to have to pay $1900 + $360 ($30 monthly dues) even though I had not been a member for a full month. Because my E&A sign up agent had not specifically written on my contract that I would not be liable for any charges after the total time was prorated for my membership use, I am still to this day (February 3, 2012) paying off this scam of a club. I talked with manager after manager who all said the same thing... "You should have got it in writing." Granted I did learn a valuable lesson in contract negotiation but the whole company is complete and total crap. In the few weeks I was a member they did not have one single even in Fort Worth even thought they claim to cater to DFW at large. Had I not moved, I would have probably continued to go to the events I was interested in, but I would not have renewed my membership.
I believe the whole company is a scam and a word to the wise - if you do decide to join the club even after reading all the negative reviews, make them explain every single paragraph on the contract and write down any other terms they mentioned to get you to sign on the dotted line. I believed that the clause concerning marriage and transfers pertained to the full amount of the clubs cost not just the dues. The membership fee is where you get screwed. Yes you can pay the $1900 over time but the $30 a month membership fee is all that cute little clause will get you excluded from.
