The Everett school staff are a joke. I took a Medical Billing course with the instructor not even happy with the curriculum. Matter of fact, both instructors who teach this course are leaving.

They have you doing so much in what they call Core Mod, it's ridiculous. Upon enrolling, they tell you they understand that you have a Life, but then you get all this homework and begin to wonder what you have done.
After Core Mod, it's easier, but again, you don't focus on the job related stuff.

There is so much they cram into the 6 weeks, then expect you to find your own extern site to complete the 180 hours for this program.

I moved out of town after finishing class work and let them know 2 months ahead of time. 2 weeks prior to completion, the extern coordinator didn't know what I was talking about! Asked me questions that she should have had the answer to. When I complained to the President, she stuck up for her employee and asked me what did I want her to do!

They ended up finding me an extern site before I left. I interviewed to find out the site was being audited and I would be doing a lot of filing. I was ok with that. The extern coordinator wasn't. Keep in mind, everyone who externs, does not get a lot of exposure to duties pertaining to their course. The key is to complete their hours. If the school has a high course completion percent, this is why.

Anyway, that extern fell through and you only have 14 days from the interview to stay within the attendance regulations. On the 14th day they found me another site and told me to get the interview verification form After the company faxes it.

Well, the site's fax was broken. My extern coordinator calls me the next afternoon to pass the buck. I tell her I am busy and cannot go until next week (Monday). She calls me back 2 hours later to tell me that she got my deadline extended again, but that I'm responsible for get this form in on Monday.

Why didn't she tell me this after my interview? Better still, the morning after my interview?

The school thinks you're going to be office material after the course. You're just glad to be done with school!

Wherever you go, the company will train you. The school needs to spend more time on the computer programs that are used as a Medical Biller, Coding and Terminology, instead of Transcription, Customer Service, Law & Ethics and Fordney; which by the way the instructors cannot stand, because it's outdated. Take a Terminology, ICD-9/HCPCS course and save some of the $10,000.

Disappointed

AUTHOR: Sharhonda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 21, 2009

I am a recent graduate, actually I graduate at the end of April, but I totally agree with this rip-off report. I attended the Everest College in Grand Prairie, TX. and I was in the medical billing/coding program.

First of all they told me that this was an accredited school and I will be able to transfer my credits to another school if I wanted to continue my education. They lied. They also guarenteed employment after my externship. Another lie. My externship had nothing to do with what I paid to go to school for. I paid $12,000 to attend this school. The first month was o.k but after that it went down hill.

First of all, you don't have the same instructor through out the program. I went through four different instructors. The first instructor, who is the introduction module intructor, was ok). My second instructor was also o.k because she actually knew what she was doing. Well something happened with her employment their and she quit. Well come to find after she'd left, we'd found that she didn't record majority of her student grades and some of their work assignments were not graded. My third instructor was a good guy. I really can't complain about him. My last instuctor kind of confused me. She was a resistered nurse but she really did'nt teach me anything. We never worked out of our ICD-9 books or CPT books. That I couldn't understand. I was so ready to leave it was ridiculous.

I was also told by another student that when she went to search for and externship, (which that was the job of the externship coordinator) she was turned down and they told her that they didn't hire Everest College students because they were not properly trained. Now I don't know about you, but were does that leave all the students that worked hard to accomplish future career goals. Where does that leave us? Not properly trained, without a job and in debt.

They should be shut down and everyone should get reembursed some way or another. I should have done my homework on this school. You would think by seeing the commercials on T.V all day everyday, that they would be legite. I'm so, so disappointed. I want to continue my education in medical billing/coding but where do I go from here? Do I start over or do I continue when I feel like I really haven't learned anything? Now I'm back doing what I was doing before I started school making $8.50hr just to pay my bills and survive.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to attend this school. Do your homework on any school you are interested in attending. Everest is not the way to go.
