My husband and I traded in my new Diamond International timeshare from Mauii for $12,000 and gave another $18,000 cash/credit card. We were told we had 160 anytime weeks and weeks equaled 7 nights. Also 60 Exoctic-time share weeks which are discounted. We were told a week = 7 nights and we had access to 160 at any time. We were told first year we had only 2 weeks to deposit into RCI which = point/value not nights. I asked to rescend, give us our money back or compromise to give us 6 weeks deposit into RCI and or DAE a year which should give us enough value to go on 2+ vacations a year or 1 really good vacation a year planned ahead. We felt we wer lied to and fraud but because we bougth in Mexico did not feel we had any recourse.
I spoke to the Exoctic Travel In Florida which handles our deposits; I sent them the paper work I had which was different from theirs. Somehow what we signed was not in there and there was paper work we did not sign in our contract. The lady said she would document on our account we had 6 weeks of RCI or DAE every year to deposit. THey honored it for 2 years and now are not giving us our weeks. We have given them paper work and documention which is different from what they say their policy is about RCI. THey said RCI was limiting the weeks depositing. I have in writing there is no limit with RCI. I gave them that information and now all contact has ceased. They are no longer returning our calls or emails. We do not know what to do.

Timeshare Scams

Most timeshare companies are taking advantage of people, often those who are more vulnerable and less able to resist hard sales tactics. I have heard of many cases where maintenance costs rise well above inflation. It would appear the timeshare companies lock people into contracts and then drive up their profits though increased maintenance charges. It would be good to see legislation whereby timeshare companies can only charge "reasonable" maintenance costs and not use this annual fee to fleece people's bank accounts
