Last June I booked a trip with expedia for Brazil (3 tickets) with an airline called Varig. Unfortunately my friends and I had no idea that Varig was about to go bankrupted. Once we discovered this, a week later, I called expedia to cancel tickets but was told we couldn't (without losing our money) until Varig issued an official statement that they would not honor the tickets. Late July/Early August I got an email from Expedia and when I called them was told the tickets were officially canceled and we would be getting a full refund within 2-3 billing cycles (2-3 months). I did get my service fee of $40 back from Expedia but never the price of the tickets - about $2400 even though I called them repeatedly (details below). I have been on the phone with their customer service team for hours upon hours and they just keep lying to me that my money will be refunded shortly. At this point I am extremely angry at Expedia and at my wits end. I want everyone to know how they can cheat, steal and lie to their customers. I will never use Expedia again.

Details:
June 13 - booked trip
June 21 - found out varig airlines was going bankrupted. We called expedia right away to cancel tickets but was told we couldn't (without losing our money) until Varig issued an official statement that they would not honor the tickets.
Late July or Early August - Got an email asking me to call Expedia because there was an issue with the tickets. I called and was told the tickets were officially cancelled and we would be getting a full refund within 2-3 billing cycles (2-3 months)
November - When I didn't get the refund within 3 months, I called and asked for it again. Expedia told me it was still being processed.
Dec 20 - I called Expedia again. They put me on hold and called Varig on the other line. Varig confirmed the refund was being processed and would take 7-10 days.
Dec 29 - Called Expedia again. They called varig who said that refund was still being processed and it should show up on my credit card in another day or so.
I still haven't received the refund of $2,400.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Try calling the airline....

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

I have a question?

Who charged your credit card for the tickets? Did you get two charges?...one for the service fee (from Expedia) and one for the actual tickets (from Varig)?

Sometimes when you purchase airline tickets from one of these travel sites, the airline charges you directly for the flights.

If this is the case, you should try calling Varig directly for the refund......since they charged you directly.
