I recently ordered a Canon 17-40mm 4.0L from expresscameras.com. Shortly after I placed my order I received an e-mail asking me to call and verify my order.

I spoke with Scott extension 777. Scott asked me what kind of camera I would be using, I told him a Canon 10d.

He then informed me that Sigma and Canon had just recently merged and that I would be better off buying a Sigma 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC for about $150 more, which totaled about $800 plus I bought a filter package for a grand total of $999.

He gave me several reason why the Sigma lens would be a better choice such as it would be faster, has a metal mount, comes with a hood included (unlike their canon lens) and is specifically suited for digital
cameras. He also told me that canon was strongly recommending this particular lens for digi cams.

Clearly Scott was INTENTIONALLY misleading me. When the lens arrived I decided to see if I could find it for a better price and found out that it is a only $225 lens.

When I notified expresscameras.com, Scott was unavailable and I was told that it was simply a mistake, send the lens back and they would credit my account the difference and send me the canon lens that I originally wanted. I canceled my order after learning how deceitful they were.

I was even more disgusted when I couldn't find any information about a canon-sigma merger and when I went to the expresscameras.com website to find out how much they listed the sigma lens for, funny enough they don't list it at all.

I contacted Canon and asked them about the supposed canon-sigma merger and they insisted they had done no such thing.
