I was offered a "free" 10-day trial membership at Extreme Fitness gym with a "no strings attached" guarantee. Upon registering, however, I was asked for my credit card information and told there would be a $60 (one month) charge on my account which would be refunded if I decided not to stay on. I admit this seemed strange, but thought nothing of it and continued on with the membership process.
When I informed the sales rep that I didn't want to stay on after the 10 days were up he became argumentative; demanding justification for my decision. When I revealed that I had a similar offer from a gym across the street he became slanderous, even using the word "shitty" to describe their facilities. I then realized that the 10-day trial offer was a scam, and that it was only there as a means of luring people into the gym. After about 20 minutes of arguing with me he gave up and told me to "come back tomorrow and speak to the financial rep", which I did.
After repeated visits and more arguing, the financial rep agreed to cancel my account under the condition that he couldn't give me a good deal if I decided to come back. I thought this was the end of it, until I got my credit card statement in the mail, that is.
They never refunded my $60. I spoke to the financial rep a few times, but gave up after repeated promises that they did refund it.
If you are offered a free 10-day membership from this gym do not accept it.
