Fafco of Tampa DuraMade Doors and Windows Terrible and dishonest company. They used my credit card without authorization. They didn't complete job. They didn't honor their gaurantee. Clearwater, Florida

This company is terrible.  They can't be trusted.  They do not do the work they promise to do. 


My first big mistake was giving them my credit card info to pay for the small down payment.  They later used the credit card info, WITOUT MY AUTHORIZATION, to pay for the entire project BEFORE THE PROJECT WAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED.  


I provided a list of the problems with their installation of solar systems for my pool and hot water heater on December 1, 2009,  and asked them to fix them.  I know they recieved the list because I sent it certified mail and they signed the receipt.  They didn't respond to my letter.  They didn't even call me. 


Instead, without my knowledge, they were busy trying to get the money out of my credit card.   They untruthfully told the credit card company that the installation was successfully completed.


It wasn't until they realized that the credit card company won't pay the unauthorized charge that they finally contacted me on February 1 about my issues.  This was two months after my letter.  They had no apologies. 


They said they would come out to try to fix the problems, BUT ONLY AFTER I FIRST AGREE NOT TO SUE THEM FOR THEIR ATTEMPTED CREDIT CARD FRAUD.  I told them I would only agree not to sue for breach of contract IF they finish the project in a satisfactory manner.  They then refused to do any further work.


The problems with their work are numerous and include a failure to provide a heated pool that is 16 degrees higher than my neighbor's pool or 81 degrees according to their written gaurantee.  They didn't even come close.  Instead, managers and/or owners Jeff Saita, Randy Barr and Gary Dalia falsely stated to the credit card company, in an attempt to get the money, that I didn't get a pool cover that was required under the terms of the Gaurantee.  In fact, none of these three had ever been to my house, I did have the highest quality pool cover that i owned and used for two years, and every one of their five or six installers saw it in use.  They also screwed up my water softener that hasn't worked since installation.  It caused a flood of my front lawn, a much larger than normal water bill, and my water smells terrible.  I'm not sure if they improperly hooked up my irrigation line to my house by mistake.


Terrible experience.

I have to say that we are a 9 year customer of this company.They installed everything in a timely manner and installed everything properly.They even upheld their warranty last year when the freeze busted 2 pipes.

The only thingwe have had a problem with is,they have changed their phone numbers several times and it is always very hard to contact someone from the company.

We are in need of their service again,and had to look up on line for a new number.The product works great though,we have been able to enjoy our pool for many years in the cooler months.

I hope that you will not allow one clients blog about a company soil the reputation without knowing all the facts? Why don't you get the truth! Call the company and ask them for a list of customers? This way you can ask them about the products and service a company provides. A company can't stay in business if they do what this person said!!!! My understanding is that FAFCO has the best products in the industry and they wouldn't allow there dealers to do shoddy work. They have too much to lose!!!!!!

Thanks for the warning. I am curious...was the problem due to lousy equipment, poor installation or both? Was considering installing the fasco system they sell. Having 2nd thoughts... Thanks!

Now a days it is harder and harder for a business to make it. I always like to look at these complaints logically and from both sides. This company Duramade does over 10 million dollars in business in the Tampa Bay market. This is not an easy thing to do! While everyone is closing their businesses, Duramade is growing!! Why is this? It can't be because they do bad work or go around ripping people off , consumers are not that stupid. I think people should do business with companies, in the same manner in which the companies are expected to do business with them. Consumers don't have the FTC, BBB,IRS, state, city governments as well as the news papers and TV stations to answer to with their business dealings with companies!!!! Any business today that is in business, should be applauded and consumers should start to go the extra mile to work with the company and not try to slander them. These are the good guys. They are employing our neighbors and friends. They are the solution to our economic problems not the problem. So before you use these blogs, try and work with the company, go the extra mile and thank them for doing their part in a time when we need more like them.........

Who protects honest companies from unscrupulous customers that choose to file in this forum????

Mr. Jacobs charged his entire purchase on his AE card.  After installation was compete, he tried to withold part of his charge claiming the installation was not complete.  American Express UPHELD the CHARGE; determining the work was completed per the terms of the contract.  Only AFTER the charge was upheld did Mr. Jacobs claim the charge was fraudulent.  AE determined that CLAIM to be FALSE and AGAIN UPHELD THE CHARGE. 

As for his other claims:

1.  No idea what he is rambling about with the pool cover.   All that is required is the use of A pool cover(NOT our pool cover) in the winter months.

2. All follow up work requested was completed by 2/28/2010.

3. Water softener - determined by an INDEPENDENT OUTSIDE SOURCE that the softener was simply worn out.  They determined we DID NOT do anything to cause the softener to break.  It is simply a cheap model that wore out. First we are hearing of an irrigation line.  No idea what he is talking about.

4. Pool Temp - Performance Guarantee " FAFCO has designed your pool heating system to add 16 degrees (F) to the temperature of your pool to keep your pool temperature at 80 degrees (F) or higher FROM APPROXIMATELY 2/15 to APPROXIMATELY 12/1.  Your performance guarantee assumes the use of a pool cover. Your performance guarantee is BASED ON THE LAST 20 YEARS OF WEATHER and YOUR POOL TEMPERATURE WILL GO UP OR DOWN AS the AVERAGE WEATHER INCREASES OR DECREASES."   As the guarantee DOES NOT apply during the winter months AND this winter has been one of the coldest and rainiest on record, Mr. Jacobs complaint is completely unwarranted.

Fafco of Tampa is an honest, longstanding member of the Tampa Bay community.  We take pride in our product, workmanship and customer service. Our product qualifies for solar energy rebates from the state and local power companies.

 Complaints from unscrupulous customers like this damage good companies and should be investigated before posting.
