On December 18th, 2013, a man (J. James) posing as a hard money lender gave me a check for a small business loan. I paid him $862.50 upfront for closing cost and 1st month's interest only payment (silly me). He in turn gave me a check for $7500 drawn on Falcon Capital, supossedly located in Los Angeles, CA. I am located in Winston-Salem, NC and J. James came to my house to do the closing.
Everything looked legit, including the check drawn on Ally Bank in CA. I deposited the check into my account and it posted on December 24th, but on December 26th, I received notfication from my bank that the check was no good. This was after I had paid bills and make some purchases using the funds deposited. The bank has consequently closed all of my accounts and I have been going through financial h--- since.
Do not fall for this scam!

The man who ripped me off was charged and goes to trial at the end of the month. He also scammed other people.
