Family Fresh Air Inc. Coupon Scam to Force Unwanted Services and Made Up Repairs on Vulnerable Homeowners Vancouver Washington

 My mother contacted Family Fresh Air in response to a coupon in the newspaper that advertised they would clean the air ducts at their residence for $59.95. On February 25, 2014, two men arrived to her home at 7am, when she was home alone, was still in her bathrobe, and had just woken up to the sound of 2 large men pounding on her front door. They stated that they were there to clean the air ducts as advertised in the newspaper, and she allowed them access to the air ducts. Instead of starting to clean the air ducts as advertised, the men told her that significant additional repair work needed to be performed and would cost $167. She asked the men to leave her home so that she could discuss the matter with her husband. The men refused to leave the home and shoved an invoice in front of her. The men spoke broken English, so she had difficulty understanding them. However, she understood them to say that the repair work would cost $167. My mother is a retired woman of comparatively small stature to these two men and became frightened by the two men who were refusing to leave her home. She saw "$167" at the bottom of the invoice where it says "subtotal" and "total" signed the invoice so that they would leave. The men took the invoice with them and finally left. On March 1, 2014, my mother's husband paid the $167 that she believed was owed. She received no written documentation of any debt from Family Fresh Air until December 6, 2014, when they received - for the first time - a written invoice from Family Fresh Air, dated February 25, 2014. The invoice added multiple entries of alleged work and services that was neither requested nor performed, and that she does not recall seeing on the invoice she hurriedly signed so that the two men would leave her home. It also added a zero to the end of the subtotal and total entries, changing the amount owed from $167 to $1670. The invoice was accompanied by a "Payment Request" dated December 4, 2014, that demanded payment totaling, not $1670, but $1,836.98, without explanation. On December 12, 2014, I called Family Fresh Air and spoke to a man who identified himself as "David" and who claimed to be the "manager" of Family Fresh Air. I told David what his employees did to frighten and intimidate my mother into signing an invoice, that she only agreed to pay $167 which in itself was the result of their predatory and abusive sales tactics and was more than triple the amount of the services and price Family Fresh Air had advertised. David immediately agreed that Family Fresh Air could "waive" $1,150 of the charges from the 2/25/14 invoice if we would permit his technicians to return to the home to remove equipment that Family Fresh Air claims to have installed. I told David that I would be happy to arrange this, but the work would need to be supervised by a contractor who I trust. I asked David to provide me with dates and times. I asked David to confirm this removal would resolve the debt. David stated that, even if the alleged equipment was removed, he "could not agree to waive" charges for $290 and $230. I asked David to explain what the $290 and $230 charges were for, since the invoice does not describe them in any comprehensible way. David could not provide any further information, but admitted that his technicians apparently broke three plumbing pipes in my mother's home. I told David that Family Fresh Air is responsible for work that resulted from damage they caused. David still refused to "waive" these other charges.   Do NOT use this Company - they engage in predatory, unethical business practices.
