Fedex uses inappropriate/shady techniques to ship packages/letters. When filling out an Fedex airbill, you must weigh each package individually, input the weight in whole numbers and input same on the Fedex airbill. Therefore, if you are shipping a package and/or letter via Fedex, and same does not weigh in whole numbers, i.e., 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc., the weight on your package will be bumped up to the higher weight, i.e., 2 pounds, etc. That means you are being ripped off because you are paying more to ship your package, which does not weigh in whole numbers. I called Fedex and was told that their policy was that they only use whole numbers when shipping and that each package is weighed separately. If each package is weighed individually and the weight is 4.1 pounds, as an example, why should a customer pay to ship a 5-pound package if it does not weigh 5 pounds. These dollars could really add up.
Conversely, if you use the post office, there is a section on their airbill for both pounds and ounces, so you are paying the proper charge for what you are shipping. How can Fedex get away with charging their customers a premium for using their service and then charge them again for weight not substantiated?
This is not rocket science. Fedex is using their shiny reputation to take advantage of their customers. Their policy should be changed to reflect the proper weight, and they should not be overcharging.

family tree and IQ....and who's being childish?
"Thanks to "Ken of the USA" for his comment on the Fedex complaint. It was, in fact, very childish and not helpful. Unfortunately, stupidity must run deep within Ken's ancestry or he would have been able to offer a valid suggestion or comment pertaining to said situation."
"My point is...if you are unable to offer a valid response to a posed dilemma, then dont!"
My point was quite valid....why don't you use a different shipper? How difficult can it be to answer?
If you are SO unhappy with FedEx, it beats all logic that you continue to ship with them.
Is it because, even though you don't like how they handle weights they're still lower in price than some others? In that case, get over it.

Dear Consumers:
Thanks to "Ken of the USA" for his comment on the Fedex complaint. It was, in fact, very childish and not helpful. Unfortunately, stupidity must run deep within Ken's ancestry or he would have been able to offer a valid suggestion or comment pertaining to said situation.
That being said, if you use Fedex, be aware that you are not getting what you are paying for. Just because their service is exact, does not mean their weighing procedures are.
My point is...if you are unable to offer a valid response to a posed dilemma, then dont!

Give this OP a gold star for ignorance.

This complaint would be comical, if it wasn't so dumb. With the exception of simple first class mail, all carriers round up to the next pound. USPS is no different than FedeEx or UPS. They have always rounded up to the next whole pound.
Why stop rounding at ounces for first class mail. Does this OP feel ripped off because his Christmas card was rounded up to the next ounce, rather than the proper gram it really weighs?
This OP incorrectly refers to international declaration forms (2976 and 2976-A) as "airbills". Those airbills have a section to enter both pounds as well as ounces. The purpose for this is to define what each item in the package weighs for customs commodity verification. The total weight of pounds and ounces is also used to determining whether the package was tampered with by adding or removing contents during transit. For the OP's information, if you enter anything in the ounce section other than "0", it will be rounded up the the next pound and postage must reflect that rate or the mailing will be cancelled.
ALL domestic carriers use the pound as the base increment for parcel shipments. Any package weighing more than .01 more than a whole pound number will be rounded up to the next pound. Again, USPS (the 'post office') is no exception.
Shall we expect this OP to be creating another complaint because his package dimension were rounded up to the next inch?
