After applying for several grants I received a call from a Harry Pratt 202-629-9589 saying I had been chosen to receive grant money so I could finish my house because we built an addition to accommidate our growing family, we simply went over the budget and never completed it. Ulimately I was to send $385 in a cashiers check made out to Catherine Freiburghaus " the grant writer". I have not heard from them since. Funny thing was, I didn't jump into it blindly, I tried the BBB, googled these names 3 wks ago and turned up nothing. Today I google and find this scam.

Federal Grant Programs and Services phone# is 866-408-6701. I wonder if our President  realizes these scams going on right around the corner from him. That his people are getting screwed for trying to pull themselves out the hole by asking for Federal Grant money that we are always told is out there just waiting to be claimed. That $385 is grocery money, now we'll have to tighten our belts yet again.

Does anyone know of any real grants out there?

This outfit you're referring to isn't going to actually have anything to do with any real federal agency offering genuine grants, right? You know it's just a name to entice people to relax and think that they're tied in with the feds.

Next, you should have given just a tad of thought... People apply for grants because they need money... Why on earth would you have to pay money to get money??

It makes no sense... Just like those "You've won a lottery. Here's a check to pay for your "taxes" and then we'll send the rest of your winnings" garbage. The feds have no reason to give you money with one hand, and then take it back with the other at the same time.

Truth is, there should be no "fees" associated with getting a real grant from a bona fide government source. None.

The way to get real grant money? Do the research and legwork yourself and don't depend on anyone offering you an easy way out. Go to the ligit government site regarding grants (I think it's something along the lines of grants.gov) and go through all the steps. It's the only way to be sure, stop these shysters from exploiting you and give you some peace of mind.
