My mother received a letter in the mail dated 8/24/2009. The letter read: Congratulations: You have been announced one of the sweepstakes winners in the consumer promotion drawing organized for all tax payers, telephone subscribers, and customers of Wal-Mart, Sears, Home Depot, Safeway, Kroger, Costco, Dillard's and JC Pennys, both in United States, Canada, and UK for the promotion of customers wellbeing. An entry slip with serial number 385-7110 attached to your name drew the lucky winning numbers 17-46-28-48-39. You are entitled to the sum of US $270,000 payable by certified check, and will be delivered to you by our special courier company. You are advised to contact your assigned claims agent, Mike Lewis at 1-778-859-5347 Monday through saturday 7am to 6pm PST for further instructions on how to claim your big winnings. Envlosed is a check of US 4,755.00 which you will use to pay the applicable Government Service Tax for non Canadian residents, payable to your assigned tax agent by Moneygram or Western Union as stated below: Lorna Alexander 2875 Marine Driver St. John, NF Canada. It once again stated do not act on this letter until you speak with your claims agent..........

What i found kind of interesting about this letter is the fact it came from Canada, but the check was written from Archer Volkswagon a real auto dealer in Houston Texas.
