finish line shoe store refused to sell shoes for the marked price. louisville , Kentucky

I went to the Jefferson Mall store to purchase a pair of Adidas shoe for my son. They were marked from $79.99 to $49.99. They were marked on the laces with a tag and inside the shoe with the $49.99 price. I took them to the register and they came up at the original price of $79.99. I thought this was not a big deal but they called over the manager who went to retrieve the display shoe. When she brought it back to the register she tore off the tag and informed me that she had to sell the shoe for the price it came up in the computer not the marked price. She said the regional manger would not allow her to change it. She then had the gall to ask if I still wanted the shoes (for $79.99).  I called the customer service line and they just wanted to know if I would like to order a pair of shoes. I emailed the company twice. The first email, they ignored. The second email from Jessica in the customer service dept. informed me that a regional manager would not be contacting me as requested and she re-stated their policy of not charging the marked price but the price that comes up in the register. She wrote that noone in the company can override the price. I did not purchase these shoes and I feel very decieved by this company.    It is not like I wanted a shoe for a price that would obviously be wrong; a $79.99 shoe for $1.00.    Is this policy even legal?                   Thank you for allowing me to vent.
