So I was going to school in ft. worth for 6 months and finished early so I decided to give the management a heads up that I was going to cut the lease short 2 months. I gave the leasing agent the forms and paid $611 to move out early. Leasing agent walks through the apartment and says everything is in clean and good condition so I wouldn't get charged any fees. This was 2 months before I broke the lease. So last day comes by and I turn in keys with an extra month of rent. Management speaks to me about everything and I head back home to Dallas.
One year later, I receive a letter saying that I owe $1083 because I didn't give a WRITTEN notice. I was outraged and said that I spoke to a leasing agent that gave me the OK 2 months before. So according the property manager, everything was stated on the contract and the notice should of been written. They decided to send me straight to the collections department without any warning, no phone calls, no emails, no letters until a year later. So collections call me the day I received my letter and say I have one day to pay it or else it'll reflect on my credit report. One day to scrape $1000 or else. Unbelievable. Collector says "I don't care about your financial situation, pay up or else". I explained to the collector that the letter says that I have 7 days from when I receive the letter to pay the full amount. She refused to comment on that and said sorry you have to pay now.
So lesson learned. READ CONTRACT COMPLETELY! Even if it's 25 pages long. I ended paying $611 to move out early, $800 for extra month of rent, and $1083 because I didn't give written notice. Grand total of $2494.00 to move out 2 months early. I should just left the place empty for 2 months and gotta better deal. BEWARE OF FIRESTONE APARTMENTS IN FT. WORTH. HORRIBLE REVIEWS BECAUSE OF MANAGEMENT AND PROPERTY CONDITION!

Who was the collection agency? Did you call Firestone managemant before you paid the collection agency? Did you check out the collection agency before you paid? There are fraudulant companies that get your info and do things like this. I can't believe your rental agency sent you to collections a year later. It sounds like a scam because they called you, demanded the money so soon and wouldn't work with you.
