It certainly pays to do your homework prior to commiting oneself to such a frivolous sales pitch -those who get caught up in the notion that they will be earning a substantial income when they come aboard First Investors Corporation. I learned that today on my interview. Allow me to explain.

I live just outside in the Albany, N.Y. area and today I was invited to the first of 3 interviews that one needs to go through before they become an associate -not a one on one interview as I originally was told by the regional recruiter named Noah Greco -rather, a group interview that consisted of a handful of fresh out of college graduates. I was eager to know of the ins and outs of what it takes to not only earn a substantial amount of money as I noted above, but how to maintain the ambition, the motivation, and being driven to succeed. I walked in the door of the local First Investors office, signed in, then was directed into a conference room were I was given brochures of what the company is all about.

The gentlemen that spoke to us was quick-witted, and well equipped to throw his character at me. Extremely self-centered and very much egotistic, his method(s) of attempting to sabotage me nearly worked. But I knew all too well to fall for something hookline and sinker. Obviously, this gentlemen certainly has not fully actualized his potential as a human being -in other words, he hasn't reached his full human stature. He is without question a brilliant tactician who seeks out those that he can exploit .....hmmm, that certainly sounds like the overall theme of the company does it not?! What the gentlemen failed to mention is that his company is just as deceptive as many other corrupt institutions and has been the subject of fraud -he boasted about how his company earned this amount and that amount by going into several statistical catagories and even touched on several examples of local associates that are earning a six-figure income in just under a year, those that have earned $40,000-$50,000 in just under 4 months, and, about how he and his fellow associates, including the big bosses, go on all expense paid lavish trips around the world living that jet-setting lifestyle. Goodness, it wouldn't be complete without the fact that he noted how beyond drunk he and his fellow associates get all the time when they go on such trips.

The group interview lasted just under an hour and a half. Bottom line?......I'm not convinced and I hope that, while I am not able to speak on behalf of the ones that were in attendance for today's interview, I hope to save someone unnecessary grief if they are to continue the process of becoming a First Investor associate .....not to mention, with the condition that the economy is in today and with the standard of living that keeps on going up, who would want to experience such grief from this company, let alone, become one of their associates?! And, I might add to what Coguy from Denver Colorado stated in his experience with First Investors.....is that, as I personally was, you are told right up front, that :

1. You are a salesperson -nothing more -nothing less.
2. You might be wondering as I was.....where are the benefits?
3. You are solely responsible for your own expenses -nothing is free!!
4. You don't need a college degree even though I have one that is in the
complete opposite field (Criminal Justice).

That Sounds like a LIE!

AUTHOR: Spect3r - (United States of America)

First of all, I agree with the people who say this is close to a scam.  It certainly is because I have been contacted several times by this company to come in.  They got my resume from my school and from online career building sites.  At a career fair, two representatives practically jumped on me and already wanted an interview without even knowing my major. (Marketing)  So, they told me to come to an interview at this generic time period, which I already knew could not be a personal interview.  I said sorry, no can do.

AGAIN, 2 months later this woman on the phone saying she is a recruiter calls my cell phone from the Westbury, NY location wanting me to come in for an interview.  I said to her sure why not and told her when I was free.  She gave me the exact times that the reps gave me previously.  I said I could not make those times and told her to email me the information.  She went around me completely and just told me to call her back.  So, my question is you can't e-mail me any information like normal companies do?

Group interviews, promising tons of money and cold calling sounds like Boiler Room to me.  I urge college students and the like to watch out for them no matter what major you are.

Rebuttal to Albany review

AUTHOR: Jenbpcru - (U.S.A.)

"If you get offered the job expect to pay the fee for the test up front and in CASH the next day you report to 'work'. "

Not true. We cannot accept cash, we must release your fees to FINRA via First Investors. Therefore, we require a personal check, or money order, so we may process your fees, do your background check, and release those fees to FINRA.

"If they need you so bad and they reviewed so many resumes and chose you; then why do they ask you to bring them cash the next day for the test? Can a huge company not fit the bill for a little old test?"

First Investors reimburses candidates all of there licensing fees once they reach Level II status. If a candidate is working approximately 40 hours per week, they should reach Level II in about 8 weeks, give or take. We do not pay for candidates licenses : 1) they are your own licenses, and 2) some people would surely go through our training, pass those exams, and then leave right afterwords. We are a business, and that does not make any business sense.

"I tried to ask a simple question like 'What should a normal REPRESENTATIVE (Because that is what they call you) plan on making there first year?' This was the first time little mis XXXX did not have a straightforward answer for me and said that she would get that information later."

Every rep is different. There are reps who make $10,000 in their first full 12 months, and reps who make $80,000 + in their first full 12 months. Each person's work ethic is different. Your yearly income will be determined by your willingness to take full ownership of your business, and work accordingly.

I hope this helps potential candidates. I think it would be ill-advised for you to take one anonymous person's experience, and use it to judge a 79-year old Wall-Street based investment firm who is growing and expanding in 2009 during a recession. You may miss out on a career that is very emotionally and financially rewarding to many people.
