Banking charges are notoriously high in South Africa, but First National Bank have stooped to new lows with the fee I was charged today.
A cash deposit of R35.00 ($4.5) was made into my personal account.
The fee that FNB has charged me for this transaction is R15.00 ($2) !
That's almost half of the total deposit!
Don't steal - FNB hates competition.

#1 UPDATE Employee
FNB Cash Deposit Fees
AUTHOR: J Fowle, FNB Pricing Executive - (South Africa)
SUBMITTED: Monday, July 07, 2008
Dear Kensa
You are correct that FNB introduced a minimum fee of R15 for cash deposits in branches on 1 July 2008, however cash deposits through FNB ATMs remain completely free to individual account holders, and customers are encouraged to make use of ATMs for cash deposits to avoid cash deposit fees altogether.
The R15 minimum cash deposit fee will only affect cash deposits of less than R1428: All cash deposits of greater than this amount will experience a fee reduction on our new pricing from 1 July onwards.
If you have any queries regarding your bank charges and how you can reduce them, please contact our Pricing Help Desk on 0860 11 22 44.
Yours sincerely
James Fowle
