I had paid 250 toward my balance of 350, by electronic check and First Premier put a seven day hold on my check though it posted within 48 hours of the transaction. We had a break-in at our home and I called to see if they would be so kind as to lift the "hold" so that we could replace the locks, but they said that it was a "mandatory hold" and we would have to wait the full 7 days with no exceptions. A little history -- we have been with First Premier for 8 months and had 1 credit limit increase of 100 dollars (at the cost of $30.), we have always paid on time, never bounced a check, never missed a payment  and usually paid between 75 & 100% of the total balance each month. We wanted the card as a way to increase our credit score (they promised to report to all three agencies yet are not accurate in their reporting) and to have a secondary card. Recently, we had asked if we could put 1500 toward our card, so that we could use the Premier Card to cover a rental car and incidentals and once again First Premier was uncooperative and stated that we could but we could only have up to a $350 credit limit per day, which would not even cover the rental car for two weeks so we will use another card -- their loss! It is very sad that this bank does not realize a good customer when they see it and have better consumer relations as between the two of us we take home roughly $50,000 a year -- we will be keeping the card til our credit score is to our satisfaction than pay it off and cancel. For those of you, who cant afford to put up with the predatory practices of First Premier we suggest you stay away!

Chas,

It appears that you do not fully understand credit scoring.

A major factor in credit scoring is known as "longevity" which represents how long the account has been open. Longer history = better credit score...as long as the account remains open!

As soon as you close that account, depending on how long it was reported, you could take a 50-100 point hit on your score.

If you are unhappy with First Premier Bank, as most people are at some point, I would suggest you close that account now and look at some other quality providers of secured cards.

Just advice from someone who has been there with First Premier Bank.

Run fast!
