After falling on hard times, I could not afford to pay my cc bill. After repeated promises to make paymnt but no follow throughs, I was contacted by collection agency in which they said my debt with first premier bank had been sold to them.
After getting this info I contacted first premier bank and they corroberated what thw agency told me. So I finally got back on feet and started making bi weekly paymnts to the collection agency. After 6 months I had paid off the debt. I got a thank u letter from agency along with payment transcripts and account paid certificate.
Its been 8 months since I paid my debt off and a week ago I get call drom first premier bank saying I had an overdue acct and in order to be able to use my card I needed to pay 710.00 today. I told her it was paid in full gave her agency name n mumbr. Even faxed all paperwrk I had. Told her my cc acct was closed long ago. She sed I was victim of scam and the money I paid agency didnt matter I still owed them. I faxed her the page clearly said first premier, and was signed by a member of bhank. She admitted she knew the woman and said it was her signature. But she said oh well I still owe them and it needs to be paid. Also is being reported to credit beaurea and my score is being negatively affected.

First Premier Bank

Hey Greg, from the looks of your article you are too ignorant to even have a credit card in the first place. You are educated on your own personal finance and you have no idea what it means to go into default with a creditor. You cannot open a credit card account with a company and then charge it up and expect the company not to go after you when you don't pay it back. You got ripped off by a person that pretended to be a debt collector.
You obviously never looked at your own credit report, otherwise you would have known what to do when the shady collector first contacted you about the debt. Legitimate debt collectors will harrass you and make threats but it is their "scare tactics". You need to be careful with your personal mail when you throw away your trash. Thieves lurk around trash cans to find "suckers" unwary of their mail that has been thrown away.

To the original poster. Getting wanked out at Robert and others who are asking legitimate questions of clarification in order to HELP you is counterproductive. We get that you are frustrated but snapping at folks like that does not help.

Simple solution here.

Get the copies of the checks, or other payment and look at the back where it was endorsed.
Get the bank account information and turn it over to the FBI Financial Crimes Bureau.
Also send these copies to each credit bureau along with your dispute of any negative credit bureau reporting.
This is a lesson in never doing business over the phone.
Never take phone calls from third party debt collectors. NEVER means NEVER.
Always get it in writing and always verify who you are dealing with.
Good luck!

I Am Convinced You Have A HUGE Problem....

Greg, I would not pay them anything for right now until you find out more, and I would ignore repeated phone calls for the moment. I would send a copy of the payment schedule and evidence of eliminated debt to the credit reporting agencies and request the agencies, in no uncertain terms, remove the item from your credit report. If they can't, you have a big problem.
In the meanwhile, if she keeps calling you, have one conversation with her and indicate "you are harassing me" using the word harassment....as many times in a sentence as is possible without sounding like an idiot. Even though they may be exempt from the provisions of the FDCPA, they are still not allowed to harass you.
If she continues to call.... I would contact the woman at the bank who signed off on your debt, indicate Veronica is harassing you (same thing about using 'harassment' in sentences....) about a debt you (the woman) signed off on. Somewhere along the line, you will likely find out either (a) your debt was never sold, and the collection agency scammed you out of the money you paid, or (b) First Premier collections personnel have lost their mind..... If it's (a), you are completely screwed and you owe the money. If it's (b), the calls should stop soon. Unfortunately, I am suspecting (a) is more than a likely possibility and that the collection agency scammed you (although the letter and payment schedule seem over the top for a scam)....
I also think you may have a potential identity theft situation on your hands as well; I would contact the credit reporting agencies and get fraud alerts thrown on all your credit reports until you find out the scope of your issue. Best of luck to you...

first off, the part about her recognizing the signature. What i am saying is the lady Veronica at first premier, knew the name and signature of the woman who signed this debt sale. she also works at first premier, not the collection agency. also the contract which the agency signed off on to purchase the debt is what i faxed. the name of the agency is cnc collections. as for you saying that u could receive mail from microsoft or whatever and it signed by bill gates, whats ur point? that maybe its not him? So if you got a letter signed by bill gates saying he owed u a million dollars and he signed it, it was notarized, a legal binding document, you know darn well you would try and get it. my point, i have all the proof that the debt was sold, branch manager from first premier signed off on it. i have all proof that my debt was paid in full to cnc, its positively elemetary dear watson...SOMEONE F***ED UP....NOW HOPEFULLY YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHERE IM COMING FROM NOW BUDDY....

Hard to tell

There is something missing in this story..perhaps you can answer some of these questions.
What is the Collection Agency in question that you dealt with?
How much was the original debt that you paid off?
Do you have anything in writing from the Collection Agency that states any terms of this agreement?
Are you positive that the person that called you was from First Premier?
What exactly does your Credit report show for this account?
. I faxed her the page clearly said first premier, and was signed by a member of bhank. She admitted she knjew the woman and said it was her signature.
- I sometimes get checks in the mail that clearly say Microsoft and are signed by Bill Gates. The point..just because you have a piece of paper that says something does not mean that it is legitimate.
So what page did you fax her? If First Premier supposedly sold the debt to the collection agency, FP no longer has anything to do with it. So any signature from someone at FP seems unlikely, and it seems even less likely that someone at FP would be able to verify the signature of someone at a Collection Agency.

I just received another call 5 min ago. Her name was veronica calling from first premier bank collection. She was very rude and when I told her I would not pay them one penny and was looking in to a lawsuit, she flat out said some despicable things to me. I am apalled by this. What can I do?
