Complaint Description:
I was discriminated and reprimanded for causing delays to the contract proceedings due to a demise in my family that caused me to be out of country. I signed the contract on 3/31/2018. I was supposed to pick all the selections within 2 weeks upon signing the contract. However, only the plan order for the construction modifications were made and blueprint was ordered. Salesperson Lisa Lawrence was all good before signing the contract. We accommodated so much to her incompetence and failure in keeping her appointments in a timely manner. She would have 2 or 3 customers all squeezed into 1 appointment. Every appointment was stretched to 3 to 4 hours instead of 1 hour. Once contract was signed, Lisa started showing rudeness and discrimination to us. She would sometimes yell and even reprimanded us. I could see that she was 1 person multitasking with no help whatsoever, and the stress level was just starting to go out of control. There were times that what she would say would not correspond to her writing when doing up the plan order, and this frustrated us. She yelled us at for not telling her earlier, and in actual fact we did tell her, but she did not put it in writing. In the month of June, I was called to stop by with 24 hours to sign the blueprint. I was on vacation with my family, and was shocked when I was asked to come in within 24 hours. This is ridiculous and not acceptable. What customer service is this? I explained to them and the Salesperson said she would sign on our behalf as this is something she had been doing for 23 years. Then, a member of my family passed away in Singapore and my mom was undergoing cancer treatments in Singapore. I had to be away for 2 months to support my family. My husband was in US all that time. I informed Lisa, and all was good. She did not mention about the $75 fine each day that they would be charging us as per contract. My trip to Singapore was totally unexpected. The builder and salesperson, did not show any sympathy or compassion to me or my family. If they had told me about the fine, I would have sent my husband to do the selections. I was only notified in the email on Aug 11th about the fine that further delays would cost me $75 each day by the corporate office. As usual Lisa was very rude and verbally discriminated me when I walked in to the office for my selections. There was exchange of words, and I had to leave the office. My appointment was not in private as always. There were 2 other customers in between the conversation. This is the lowest attitude that I have ever seen in a builder or a human rather. So unprofession and unsystematic. Kathy, the operations manager called me and started reprimanding about my irresponsibility and undiligence of not being able to proceed. I have built 3 homes in my lifetime here in US, and never have I experienced anything like this. First Texas home has just demonstrated the lowest of the lowest behavior I could have imagined. Instead of settling the disagreement or miscommunication, Kathy was reprimanding me and was not even helping me as a customer to resolve the issue. I was not given any other contact number to refer or escalate this matter to. I just lost my earnest money of $5000 cheque, for something beyond my means. I just totally regret the fact that I even signed the contract with the builder. Only one thing assures me and gives me that strength to walk out of, was the fact that 'What Goes Around, Comes Around'!If at all there is some compassion still alive in this Company, they would have helped me to settle the issue and support and encourage me to proceed with building my home. In actual fact, just the opposite happened. They just easily and quickly kicked me out as if they already had another buyer ready to replace my contract. They did not work towards settling the issue at all!

If they had been professional, they would have waived the penalty that was caused by the death in my family out of sympathy and compassion. As a serious buyer, I took so much day offs from work and the many trips, 30miles away from where I live, to make considerations about building a home with First Texas Homes. I feel cheated, humiliated by the Salesperson in front of other customers and discriminated as well. I lost my earnest money as I know its non-refundable. I did not walk in today to lose my ernest money and to let go building the dream of my house. If the Sales person and the operations manager were a little civilised and showed some empathy, they wouldn't have done this to a serious buyer. Things happen unexpected in families. I am very disappointed with the Salesperson. Just felt I was being backstabbed as they ganged up against me and my husband.
