I received a phone call a few weeks ago and didn't recognize the number, so when I listened to the voicemail, the message stated was, "My name is Michael Wright with the IRS legal department. I need you to contact my office immediately before we begin legal proceedings". He then left the phone number, which was 877-777-2551. As soon as I heard what I thought was the IRS, I immediately called, but I called the number that showed up on my caller ID, which was 713-777-2500. I asked for Mr. Wright and was connected to him. Right off the bat he began reading off my social security number, my address and several other identifying items, to which I replied "yes" to. HE then went off and said that if they didn't have $1,300 and some odd dollars by 3:00 that day, they were issuing an arrest warrant for me for fraud! Now mind you, this is the first time I ever heard from anyone on this, and had no idea what the heck it was for or about. Also, it was 1:30 in the afternoon....how the heck was I going to come up with that kind of money in an hour and a half. He then became more and more irate with me and even tried to hang up on me. Never once did he indicate he was with a collection agency. I told him to give me till the following morning to see what this was all about, because there was no way this could be real.
I went home after work and Googled the phone number and found that this was a collection agency for a payday loan company. I did recall having a loan at some time that I was not able to pay, but had actually forgot about it. I also saw that several people had had the same experience with this "Mr. Michael Wright". He has a really bad reputation out there. Well now has been calling and leaving threatening messages on my voicemail, and even contacted two of my friends, that I must have used as references when I had applied. Today, one of my friends sent me a text saying that he told her that I needed to pay them the money or they were going to file legal action against me!! Ok....to harrass me is one thing, but now this cannot be legal for this guy to tell my personal business to anyone other than myself!! This has to be breaking some type of law!!
If you get a call from this guy don't put up with his crap! Hang up...change your number!

There was a ABC news report on it - seems these idiots have once again changed their name - No need to change your phone number just let them know that YOU know it is a scam and hang up! Report them to the appropriate agencies ie: FBI
