We have been customers of First Equity Card for three years now, in excellent standing. In March 2009 we wrote two convenience checks, and both were returned, unpaid, even though we had a more than sufficient balance to cover both, causing us great harm and embarrassment. We called Customer Service, asking as to why, receiving as answer "Your account is closed...you'll receive a note to that effect in the mail..." - yes, we received one note, then another, indicating our account had been closed on March 6, 2008 (even though the cards don't expire until April) for reason of "inactivity," a ridiculous statement, as the the account has been active, and all monthly payments were paid directly from our account to theirs, and prior to their each due date.

Numerous calls to "Customer Service" were fruitless, as were letters to Stephen A. Melton, President and CEO of its parent bank, Columbus Bank & Trust, as well as to the President & CEO of First Equity Card, Timothy Clarke, and a VP by the name of S. Tirendi. They just don't budge. The account stays closed. Basta. No apologies.

The treatment experienced by First Equity Card is perfidious, unprofessional and degrading, thus causing undeserved harm. This bank should be ashamed of its actions, apologize, re-instate an account of "excellent standing," if not, promptly changing its name to "First In-Equity Card" describing a more proper description of its status.

We have never in our many years in business experienced a more shoddy treatment by any bank, now having no choice other than to file specific complaints with the various regulatory authorities, as well as the BBB.
