Fitness USA, National Credit Corporation It's a Scam West Bloomfield Michigan

I joined Fitness USA in February, 2006 at the Taylor,MI location. I asked about the cancelation policy due to relocation, I was intending on moving. The person at the gym told me that as long as it was at least 25 miles away from a Fitness USA location it could be canceled. I attended the gym for approximately 5 months. I did in fact move more than 25 miles away from a Fitness USA mid-July 2006 and never went back to the gym as it was too far of a drive.

I called the gym to cancel as was instructed to mail my member number, a copy of photo ID, and reason for canceling to corporate headquarters in West Bloomfield, MI. I promptly followed those instructions exactly in August 2006. After which, I was never contacted by Fitness USA again, not a single phone call, letter, or e-mail. Of course I then assumed that the account had been closed out.

In approximately November 2007 I received a letter from a law office stating that I owed over $800 to Fitness USA that had been handed over to their collection agency at National Credit Corporation. I realized that something was wrong and thought that somehow the account I canceled was allowed to keep running a tab. I then immediately proceeded to write back to the lawyer, explaining my case, stating that the account had been canceled, I had left no balance of money on the account. I never heard back from them, again no phone call, letter, or e-mail.

Again in the process of a big move, I decided to sort it out once my move was complete. However, in January 2008, upon running my credit report I found that my report, which had been previously been immaculate, had now taken a bad turn. I scrolled to the bottom of the report to find that the National Credit Corporation claimed I had a Key Derogatory.

Clearly being very upset by this news, I called Corporate Fitness USA and left a message, giving a brief explanation and asking for a returned call to sort the problem out. They refuse to call me back.

After doing a little digging I found that Fitness USA and National Credit Corporation are part of the same company, same President, same Vice President, same Executive Assistant, and same Business Location. I thought maybe I needed to report this to the Better Business Bureau. I looked on the web site for the BBB and found that there had been 99 complaints in the last 36 months about Fitness USA, the West Bloomfield location alone. But HERE is where it gets very interesting, I also found that the Vice President of BOTH Fitness USA and National Credit Corporation also just so happens to be A BOARD MEMBER of the Eastern Michigan Better Business Bureau.
