I hired Flatrate Moving Systems, LLC for my relocation from San Francisco to Los Angeles. I have already filed a damage report with Flatrate owner, Alex Ravich, and followed up with a complaint letter, several addendums, a claim form, and more than 30 photographs detailing the extensive damage to my personal property. They damaged every major piece of furniture I own: my bed, sofa, loveseat, dresser, cabinet, and they stole my DVD player. Its been more than three weeks since they delivered my damaged household goods and they have neither provided me with a progress report on their investigation nor have they prepared a plan of action for restoring my property or reimbursing me for the damage they caused to my household goods. All theyve done thus far is credit me the $200 tip. They still owe me at least $9435.86.
The complications first began with their salesman who did not prepare a proper inventory. The foreman arrived without wardrobe boxes, only green bins (eco-crates); which I subsequently learned are not appropriate for long-haul moves and are meant to be used for local moves only. Also, the foreman advised me that the salesman padded by bill by suggesting the use of the green eco-crates. The Flatrate foreman should have recognized and admitted that they were ill-prepared and ill-equipped to move my household goods. The foreman left for more than an hour after completing his walk-through; at which point, he should have collected bubble wrap, cardboard, china sleeves, and additional packing supplies from their Oakland warehouse to ensure that my belongings would be properly wrapped, but when he
returned he only brought a few wardrobe boxes. I suspect that the movers he brought with him were not only inexperienced, but day-laborers who probably had little-to-no training packing and moving antique furnishings and fragile goods. I entrusted Flatrate with all my worldly goods and they have destroyed items that took my entire lifetime to curate.
I have already reported them to the California Public Utilities Commission, the American Moving Association, the Department of Transportation, the Better Business Bureau, the California Attorney Generals Office, and movingscam.com. I am also alerted the media. I will notify their partners at the LA Clippers and LA Kings. As unprofessionally, recklessly, and negligently as Flatrate employees handled and damaged my property, I will tenaciously, passionately, and relentlessly pursue this matter!
If it were one or two small items, that might be understandable, but the damage is so extensive, so severe and on such large irreplaceable pieces, that it is incomprehensible, inexcusable, indefensible,
unconscionable, and entirely unacceptable. Flatrate must accept financial responsibility for the damage and destruction their employees caused to my personal property. If they had at least followed up with me to give me a progress report, I might be less frustrated, but everyday that passes without a
response, only incenses me further! I think their business license should be revoked, at the very least they should be subject to a hefty fine. Even the Los Angeles Flatrate delivery team admitted that this was the WORST move theyd ever seen and confided that they have had ongoing issues with the San Francisco team, which would indicate a precedent/history that the owner has never rectified. This is the most unimaginable case of GROSS NEGLIGENCE I have ever witnessed. They have chosen to ignore me, but they wont be able to ignore the Better Business Bureau, the California Attorney Generals Office, etc.
