I had my 1991 Suzuki Sidekick towed to Fletcher's at Union Hills and 35th Ave on Monday the 10th of January 2011. It had a bad starter. I asked them to give me a quote to fix the Freeze Plugs as well, while they had the truck.

They called me at work and told me all the Freeze Plugs were leaking and to get at them they had to pull the engine out. They said they would change the timing belt, and the water pump plus put a new battery in for the price of $2,200.00.

I told them to just put the battery and the starter in. I used to be a mechanic so I have a fairly good grasp on what auto repair should cost.

Fletcher'snever called me back with what the charge was going to be.

The next timeFletcher'scalled, at about 3pm that afternoon, theytold methe truckwas ready. I was very busy and I didn't bother asking the price,Icouldn't't get away from work, so I asked my wife the pick the truck up.

My Wifecalled a while later and told me the price was $650.00 but they were giving me a discount so it would be $597 and some change. I was amazed??? What could possibly cost that much? Cody, the mechanic told me the Starter was $300.00 and the Labor was $140.00I thought that was pretty steep for under an hour's work.

Replacing a starter and battery with a Car Lift is under a half hour, but I don't begrudge a company their labor. I think a minimum charge of an hour is fair. I don't know about $140 and hour unless you are the Suzuki Dealer. I paid them and got my truck back.

I started looking around for a price for the same job from another Fletcher's Auto shop. Sean at the other Fletcher's in Paradise Valleyquoted the same job for just under $400.00.

To add insult to injury, I had another mechanic look at the freeze plugs. They told me all I needed was a water pump. I had that put in and that took care of the leak. Cost $200 not $2,200.00.

That Fletcher's Auto Ripped me off. I tried to get hold of their corporate office and they never returned my calls. I am very upset and want everyone to know that Fletcher's did it to me and they will do it to you!

AUTHOR: Don''''''''t be Dumb - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, September 09, 2011

I hate customers like you, all you do is piss off the shop and make them charge me more to make up for the loss you cost them. Man up you pu*sy and quite bitching about something you know nothing about..

( two weeks later it won't start ) if you have a pics of crap can and it needs work, do not take it to Fletchers because they will fix it right. And charge a fair price. ( I know they work on all my cars) take is to your buddy back yard and fix it your self.

2 Weeks Later, The Truck Would Not Start Again!

AUTHOR: Clark - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, March 05, 2011

So, 2 weeks later after Fletchers put in the new battery and Starter, the truck would not start. It did the exact same thing it did before.

I took it to a mechanic who told me it just needed a single wire replaced from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. He charged me $50. It has worked perfect ever since.

I got an affidavit from the mechanic and am going to sue or picket in front of Fletchers. As for the Fletchers Mechanic who is posing as a regular reader here, I don't care what a customer says to a mechanic, It is the responsability of the mechanic to test the vehicle and diagnose what the problem is.

If a person brings a vehicle in and says it won't start, it must be the starter and the mechanic just replaces the starter and replaces the battery too, but does no testing, That mechinic deserves to be fired. Customers do NOT know what is wrong with their vehicles. They may have a general idea, but until tested, nobody knows.

Fletchers charged me for a new starter and a battery I did not need. Where is the Rip Off Now Mr Fletcher's Representitive?

fishy story

AUTHOR: coast - (USA)

"I asked them to give me a quote to fix the Freeze Plugs" You told them the freeze plugs needed repair when you left it for service; then, you complained that they were ok.

A freeze plug needs replacement due to poor maintenance or if the owner of the car failed to use antifreeze. You're a mechanic huh?

Must be

You are one of the crooked mechanics.  Typical, your place in hell is already reserved, doing headstands in raw sewage.  Oh, wait, you do that already, ah well, I'm sure the devil will come up with something suitable for you.

Too many holes in this report. No rip off here.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 04, 2011

The part that really makes me laugh here is the "used to be a mechanic" statement.

First of all, if you "used to be a mechanic" you certainly would not own or drive a Suzuki Sidekick! This is JUNK that nobody with a shred of common sense would own.

Second, that Suzuki Sidekick is NOT a "truck". You would be lucky to haul your groceries in that junk!

Third, according to your own statement, you simply told the repair shop to replace the battery and starter. You never asked for a quote before approving the work.

Fourth, the desparity in price could be new vs reman on the starter, as well as brand on the battery, so quotes from other shops are like comparing apples to oranges. And, the other shops most likely did not see the job. Phone quotes? Yeah, apples to oranges comparison here.

What does the labor guide say for a starter change on that vehicle?

What does the labor guide say for a battery change on that vehicle?

It seems like a mechanic of your qualifications would have just had the car towed to your home so you could do it after work, since it was such an easy job and could be done in just a half an hour, right?

No wonder you are not a mechanic anymore.

No rip off here. You authorized the work without asking price!

Stupid and lazy does not equal rip off.

What is wrong with people?

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 03, 2011

This is another example of someone who authorized some work done - didn't ask the price - made some 'assumptions', got the job done and only then decided to get some quotes from other people who, by the way, never saw the job.

It just seems a little backward to me.
