Around October 2003, a fax came through at my office (I work at a law firm in Houston, Texas) offering a package trip to Orlando, Cocoa Beach, and the Bahamas for $199 per person. I called the number provided, spoke to an individual named John and purchased two packages for a total of $452 which was immediately charged to my credit card. I was told that I had 2 years to use the trip vouchers. Several weeks later, I received the travel package in the mail with the travel vouchers for the 3 trips.

For the past month, I have been trying to contact Florida Tourist Bureau and have not received any response from them. I left several messages and none of my calls have been returned. After finding the other reports on this company on Ripoff.com today, I realize that I too have indeed been ripped-off. I have not yet spoken to the credit card company, but assume that since the charge was made 2 years ago, they won't be able to do anything about it.

It does exist

AUTHOR: Marcy - (U.S.A.)

I just wanted to let you know that the Florida Tourist Bureau, as incompetent as it is, does exist. I also purchased a Orlando, FL, Coacoa Beach, FL and Freeport, Bahamas package deal from Florida Enterprises via a fax sent to my office. After numerous phone calls to the Florida Tourist Bureau, using every phone number I could find, I finally got in touch with someone who confirmed my reservation. I did acutally take the trip, but was hit with a lot of extra cost that I wasn't expecting (like the port charges). Plus, I didn't know that I would be required to go to timeshare presentations, one in Orlando and one in Coacoa Beach, which took up a good chunk of time which I would have liked to be spent at a Disney park or on the beach. Also the Florida Tourist Bureau doesn't tell you that you have to get to their office before 4pm on the first day of your trip (my flight didn't land until well after that) to get vouchers that you have to present at the hotel to claim your room. Plus you have to take a voucher to each timeshare presentation, get it signed or stamped and take it back to the hotel. Personally I thought it was too much paperwork to keep track of on a vacation. I should have brought my briefcase along with me.

My advice for anyone trying to redeem a vacation with the Florida Tourist Bureau is DON'T LEAVE A MESSAGE!!! I did not have even one of my calls returned in the three months it took to get my trip worked out. I did call, hang up, call, hang up, call, hang up until I got an actual person. When I didn't get my confirmation promptly I repeated the process. In fact, by the time the vouchers were collected from the Florida tourist bureau I was corresponding with the owner of the company (who also failed to return phone calls) on his cell phone.

The Florida Tourist Bureau is a small, poorly run business with very little concern for the customers, however it does exist.
