If you plan to buy coverage under Prepaid Legal, beware of the fine print. They lead you to believe that you will accumulate so many hours of free legal service and trial defense. When they refused to help me with a couple of lawsuits, I realized that the fine print lists many types of "surprises" that may pop in life that are not covered.

Additionally, every issue that I have brought to them (there have been at least five to date) have not been answered to my satisfaction. They have no true legal muscle and try to convince you that you are in the wrong or have no standing.

If you want to flush down hundreds of dollars every year to have an attorney contact you when s/he feels like it, PPL (now Legal Shield) and their partner firm, Framme, are perfect for you.

Consider two things when reading above complaint.

1. There are imperfections and exceptions with every product and service. I appreciate you noting that situations were not handled to "your" satisfaction because the service has helped millions of people and saved members time and millions of dollars. I have used the service and while I don't always get the answer I'm hoping for, I appreciate that I pay very little compared to calling a random attorney from phone book who would charge a lot more just to answer a simple question. (In CA they have to call you back within 8 biz hours, and its always been less. Not when they feel like it...don't know about other states)

2. What are your other options? The main purpose is to get legal questions answered so you are aware of your rights and options. Yes, there is fine print for each title of service, just like any other contract you would sign. If the issue is with a specific attorney or law firm, call customer Service. The law firms across the US get paid a lot, and if a law firm gets enough complaints they will find another firm willing to meet the members needs.

Lastly, keep in mind, it's the law. It doesn't always make sense. Laws themselves have lots of fine print. So before bashing, consider what they did do for you, how much it would have cost you, and for the issues that didn't meet your satisfaction, have you consulted another attorney? How much would that cost you and would they take your case, and for how much? Just a thought.

Have an excellent day, and wish for you less legal issues :)
