Want to adopt a loving dog??  Do not go to SPCA of Monroe that's for sure!  They do not stand behind their dogs they adopt when an attack by the dog happens 2 days after adoption.  The place is swarmed with flys, and smells like urine as soon as you walk into the "office" to sign the adoption papers.

I can understand a non refundable fee when someone just decides they do not want the dog they adopted... however, what about a situation where a dog was adopted, and 2 days later attacks a man who is a life long dog lover and in need of a dog's companionship and who is recovering from a stroke and confined to a wheelchair is biten in the hand and twice in 2 legs when all he was doing was trying to play ball with the dog??  Does he deserve to loose $200 to adopt a dog that attacked him and had to go to the emergency walk in clinic for treatment?

This is a TRUE story that happened to my parents a few weeks ago.  Initially the adoption fee is almost $400 but Fred reduced the rate because the dog was 6 years old and needed a home, and they also gave us 3 bags of dog food... oh by the way the dog food had an expiration date of a month earlier!  This was also the day before the SPCA had to find homes for almost 30 dogs before the town of Monroe shut them down as they had too many dogs.

I'm all about saving dogs lives, and trying to find them good homes.  We thought we had found a good dog, the first 2 days he was there, was great, very happy, affectionate going up to my dad in the wheelchair, seemed like a perfect fit.  No one knows why the dog turned so quickly, but we had to bring him back because if he turned in 2 days like that god knows what else could have happened and my dad is not in a postion to protect himself from the dog attacking him.. Thank god nothing else worse happened, as it very well had could have turned out much worse.

My mom called the SPCA saying what happened and was bringing the dog back.. if Fred would be there in a half hour when she would be there, the response was yes he'd be there.. Guess what!  FRed of course took off before she got there.  The woman who was there was actually very nice about it and felt horrible about what happened... She said she would speak with Fred about returning the fee.

Here it is 3 weeks later and of course no refund.  My mom went there today to speak with him, and of course he was VERY RUDE saying he and the workers don't get paid, we signed the form.. so basically your SOL.  He even asked one of the workers there when was the last time you got paid here?  He walked into the so called office and wouldn't respond any further.  He didnt' even say he was sorry to hear of the incident and try to at least work something out .. He's inhumane so I can only imagine the real care the dogs living there get..  We probably would have even agreed to splitting the amount saying keep $100 to help feed the dogs you have here as a donation and having $100 returned.. especially after the troubles my dad had of having to get to the emergency clinic, bruises on his legs and a swollen hand which is his only functional hand.  oh and I even donated my cat's bed to them, I should have brought it to a more deserving shelter.

Class act you are not SCPA of Monroe.  I do not wish any harm on the dogs that need homes, but they need to be placed in a facility that truly cares about them and the organization that they run.

You did WHAT?

AUTHOR: Caesar - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, May 08, 2013

....You gave a dog you didnt know - who may have been abused before being cruelly abandoned...to an invalid?

That's the irresponsibility right there.

Sorry people...but the easiest way to get bitten is to stick your hand in a dogs mouth. You think it's fun...but the dog doesnt know. He may perceive it as an attempt to confront him and take what he belives to be his.

Blame the dog and the man who saved his life...great idea!
