Lets just say I was searching the web for a vehicle and found it at Fred's Select Auto.  The salespeople are great in getting you into the dealer but once you are there it is a complete scam.  First they tried to up the price of the vehicle until I showed them the page I printed with the sell price for my car.  I paid extra for a key but no one seems to remember and gave me the run around each time I called as to where my key was.

To this date, I still do not have my extra key... Lets just say a week later, the check engine light came on.  They sent me to a fellow mechanic they use and he just looked at it and gave me some off the wall BS as to what was wrong with the car and quoted me a ridiculous dollar amount to fix it.  Going with my gut instinct took the car to an official dealer and to my surprise-needed new brakes, tires, rotars, and major tune up.  Not the original issue their mechanic told me what was wrong with the car.

THINK TWICE DON'T BE EMBARRASED

AUTHOR: elgebi - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, October 02, 2013

Hi, I know the person that wrote before is probably another dealership or somebody that thinks he is pretty smart he will never fall under any scheme. A good reccomendation will be to always analyze the dealership and the way they talk. If they are a small dealership doesnt mean that they are going to rip you off but you have to understand that they have less resources and will count on every dime they can keep so service is most likely not to be received from this dealers after the sale. Brand dealers may service you better after the sale but they also have to make a profit in every sale so after you have been buggin them for a while they may get tired.

You have to know that there are laws in Virginia and that you cna sue them. Small dealers will let you sue them because they never expect anyone to have the money and time to sue them so they will take the risk. Before you sue them make sure you contact them, Don't just sue them because they are gonna come to court and say you never gave me the opportunity to come to a resonable agreement and now you want to sue me for $ 300k. So always to any dealership you deal with make sure you contact them by email, fax and certified mail with your intention to come to an agreement and what you expect from them wheter to buy the vehicle back or repair any malfunctioning part.

Always keep in mind that there are pre existing conditions and that if you know it was there you can claim that it was pre existing and make sure you note it on all your correspondences. There are options before hiring a paid lawyer. There is the LEGAL SERVICES OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA who is a non profit organization that can provide a lawyer for you at no cost or reduced cost. They can help you litigate a case before going to court. Most likely when you are dealing against a Brand Dealer (I mean the brand names not the local Joe used cars) they are most likely to settle without going to court because they know that there is a risk of losing in court that could cost them 100's of thousands of dollars in punitive damages. Small dealers will take the risk of going to court and pay other people to lie in court in order for them to win the case.

It is better to buy from a brand dealer because they do not want to get involved in lawsuits but they sell their cars more expensive.

Also keep in mind that there are inspectors like CARCHEX that will charge you less than $ 130 to inspect the vehicle for prior paint and will give you a full report that helps you undertsnad more about the vehicle. Now they are not mechanics and will not take out parts but will help you get at least the most obviuos parts of the car that were repainted, rare noises that will help you make a better decision about buying that car or not.

ALWAYS GET THINGS IN WRITING!!!.If the dealer tells you yes don't worry we are gonna take care of that...Get it in Writing.... Don't get verbal promises because if it is verbal 100% they are gonna run away if they can't fix it. Make clear statements like if you have a noise when braking and they write pads will be cleaned....DONT ACCEPT IT ...write on insted"BRAKES WILL BE REPAIRED AND WILL BE IN FULL WORKING CONDITION" if A/C doesnt work and they tell you it only needs to be recharged...write A/C WILL BE IN FULL WORKING CONDITION. otherwise they recharge the A/C and if it doesn't work they have done what they have promised and you can't take action agaisnt them.

If you decide to sue them with a paid lawyer expect to spend 6k approximately and wait couple years for the worst case before it goes to court. NEVER GIVE UP because you have a responsibility with society to get that dealer punished as much as you can so when that dealer does that again they are gonna get punished very bad by the next person and they either will stop doing that or run out of business.

When you run into a dealership and feel you have to go don't feel sorry or embarrased Just go, leave and don't come back no matter the salesman or the manager.. Do they know you?? are they gonna talk about you??? NO because they don't know who you are. So leave

Hope this helps

So, Somebody Forced You???

At the start, you stated they tried to quote a price HIGHER than what the advertising said.  That tells ANYBODY they are con-artists and NOT to be trusted!  How much more of a sign do you need??? What did you do?  You simply played doormat and went along with it.

Then, incredibly, you take this car to your own mechanic AFTER you buy it!  That mechanic points out OBVIOUS problems like bad tires and brakes.  Did you even test drive this thing?  Do you think the common sense thing to do is to take the car to your own mechanic BEFORE you buy it?

In the final analysis, they told you up front they couldn't be trusted.  You chose to reward them with a profit when you should have had the backbone to get up and walk out!  You took on the gamble...and...you lost.  Such is life!  Next time, be a smart consumer.
