I joined this site on the basis that it offered contacts and it protrayed itself as a legimate site offering legitamet services. Once you have joined as a basic meber you get no responses. They then upsell you saying if you join as a Gold member you will get responses. This is not true. I not only got no responses, no one read my postings or emails and no one joined the site.

The other thing they do is use Paypal for your payments. PayPal will not entertain disputes for services. If you have paid for this site and not got services I suggest you still raise your dispute with Paypal as after a number of logged disputes even if they do not entertain them they will blacklist this site which is a con.

You should then report the problem with your card issuer or bank stating that PayPal will not respond to the chargeback dispute. This serves two purposes it exposes the flaw in Paypals terms and conditions in not dealing with service based disputes and it will escalate your dispute with this merchant.

The merchant is not providinfd a service and is hiding behind Paypals flaw in their handling of genuine cardholder disputes, beware of this flaw in using PayPal for services based transactions.

Please report any problems with Freerub or their associated sites so we can stop these con merchants

#2 Consumer Suggestion

I'm sorry but I am not at all convinced by the previous rebuttal. Freerub.com has two level of membership: Silver and Gold. With Silver the free members you contact get a notification that they got a message from you, BUT THEY CAN'T READ IT! They ALSO have to upgrade to a paid membership in spite of the face that YOU ALREADY PAID. Who ever heard of such a thing?? That's the kind of stuff that they have for a free membership, and makes your membership completely useless.

Of course they are free to structure their memberships any way they like, the problem is this: They do NOT disclose the details during the registration and payment process. You have to go out of your way to look at that page to realize this is the case, which is of course a non-standard practice with membership sites with free and paid access.

Their system does not seem to let you upgrade the CURRENT membership period to Gold so people will see your message, either. It seems if you purchased a Silver membership for six months you'd have to pay the complete fee for the Gold membership six months from now rather than pay the difference to upgrade the current period to Gold so as to reach the people you contacted. And for that matter, will messages you already sent be displayed to them? I kind of doubt it, the site seems to be really basic to put it nicely.

Employees of freerub.com, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - but it seems you should have more choices and if nothing else the choice to upgrade the current membership period to Gold, and make the sent messages display to free members as soon as you do. I'm doubtful this will happen which is why I am pursuing a cancellation of my transaction with Paypal and further if need be. Unlike other sites which pops up a window with a detailed document of the agreement Freerub does NOT do that.

This member's experiences are unfortunete, how the site does offer a guarentee for gold members that this complainant did not want to take advantage of. Instead insisting on a refund without foundation.

The site is a social networking services but is not a dating service as categorised on this site. If the complainant was using it as such that isnt going to help their success rate as most members frown upon such use. Marrages have come from the site but thats not what it is about!

The site has been in operation for 6 years and has had over 90000 members pass through it so this issolated report should not be taken as a sound basis for accessing the site. The admin reports of the number of messages that get exchanged each week testifiy to the the site's ongoing efficacy.
