This is another business that has managed to convince my 86 year old grandmother that she was "Donating money to the blind kids" as she puts it. My grandmother comes form a time where people trusted one another and it sickens me that there are people out there that prey on this greatest generation.
What they do is take call every other day, using two or three very nice ladies to get the victim to finally give in and "donate". Unlike some reports where they are selling cheap greeting cards or plastic bags, it appears my grandmother is getting nothing at all other than the $130 deducted from her bank account. I have no doubt they will start deducting more "Donations" soon hoping that my grandmother will not notice. This is what the scumbags at Tennessee based handitek did before I contacted the state commerce board. For all I know this could be the same company or just a slight variant on the same theme, ripping off the elderly.
If there is a silver lining, it is that I love to call these people out and make life just as hard for them as they have for my Grandmother and anyone else that has been a victim of their lies. I am looking forward to making this right.

Suspicious activity from this number

I got a call from "Fresh Start Handicapped Workers." I didn't answer since I suspected it was spam, and called back in case it was a debt collector I needed to communicate with.
Instead I was greeted with an automated system that said to 'press 1 to talk with a representative.' Immediately they knew my name based on the number I called them with, and they proceeded to ask me if I wanted to purchase lightbulbs or trashbags based on a 'good faith' system and the money would go to help the needy. As soon as I admitted I had no money I was hung up on mid-sentence. I called back concerned this was a shady organization and immediately the person was annoyed and said 'Oh, I thought the conversation was done' and was hung up on again.
I called back and was greeted with a 'seriously, f***ing christ' by the same man. All attempts to speak with a manager where ignored.
Upon my last callback I was greeted with a man that sounded a lot like the first, if he were purposefully lowering his voice to try and sound like someone else. He was polite and agreed with whatever I said about how rude the operator had been, but I'm pretty sure it was the same guy just humoring me.
Anyways, I told him I would be looking into the company in case it was a fake because it just seemed so obvious that it wasn't legitimate. The first clue being that I was hung up on so easily the second I said I didn't have funds when I was being civil and polite. It is not hard to find scam reports about 'Fresh Start Handicapped Workers.' Unfortunately it seems hard to persecute them.
If you have any doubts do not give money to this company . Give it to a local charity, maybe a local soup kitchen or anything else but this company.

It looks like this company is the same group that was behind the Handi Tech fraud. Here is a link to their settlement with the FTC

I have contacted the FTC with information as to their new alias and hope to have more information for you all soon.
